The Mandatory Supervised Internship (MSI) of the Veterinary Medicine program at UFRPE is essential for students to explore the professional environment prior to graduation. Required for obtaining a bachelor's degree, the internship fosters the development of theoretical and practical skills acquired throughout the academic training. Chapter I of this report describes the routine carried out in the Veterinary Clinical Pathology Laboratory (VCPL) at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of UFRPE, totaling 420 hours. The laboratory is equipped with adequate infrastructure for clinical laboratory analyses of fluids and secretions, aimed at conducting and/or assisting clinicians in the diagnosis and prognosis of patients at the Veterinary Hospital of UFRPE. Thus, the report includes a description of the activities performed in the laboratory, encompassing the work routine, casuistic of examinations, and a specific case study. Chapter II presents a case report entitled “Hematological Manifestations of Paraneoplastic Syndrome in a Dog with Mammary Neoplasia Treated at a Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Recife-PE.” It is noteworthy that the MSI contributed to the training and acquisition of greater experience in the field of veterinary clinical pathology, aiding in the transition to the job market.

The cases of neoplasms in pets show a significant growth compared to decades ago, being considered as one of the main causes, when malignant, of death or euthanasia among canines and felines. The use of existing diagnostic resources favors obtaining early results, positively impacting the survival of affected animals. Some neoplasms show a very marked degree of undifferentiation or anaplasia, requiring the adoption of immunohistochemistry (IHC) for diagnostic conclusion. The objective, with this case report, was to present a clinical case of neoplasm in the region of the interdigits of the left pelvic limb in a canine of the Shetland Shepherd breed, in which immunohistochemistry was necessary for diagnostic confirmation. The patient underwent surgical resection with amputation of the digit involved to reduce the chances of recurrence. IHC was requested for diagnostic confirmation after carrying out cytology and histopathology tests, which suggested malignant mesenchymal neoplasia and histiocytic sarcoma, respectively. The markers expressed by the cells ruled out the diagnostic conclusion of the histopathological examination. Therefore, it is concluded that immunohistochemistry is of great importance to confirm the type of neoplasia involved, preventing chemotherapy protocols from being erroneously adopted due to mistaken histopathological reports.

Uso da eletroquimioterapia como adjuvante a excisão de mastocitoma pela técnica de cirurgia reconstrutiva: relato de caso
(2022-10-07) Hounkonnou, Soke Gninlome Cedril; Evêncio Neto, Joaquim; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2816111822261115; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3450887118923788
Mast cells are connective tissue cells that play a fundamental role in the immune system, with the main site being the subcutaneous tissue and the mucosa. They are considered the only hematopoietic cells to spend most of their life in tissues. Mastocytoma is one of the most common cutaneous neoplasms in dogs, representing 11 to 27% of malignant neoformations in the species. It is characterized by abnormal and overgrowth of mast cells. The diagnosis of mast cell tumor is based on cytological and histopathological examinations. The treatment of choice consists of surgical removal of the neoplasm, however, depending on the case, other treatments can be used as an adjuvant to surgery. The objective of this monograph is to report the case of mast cell tumor in an 8-year-old canine patient treated during my internship at the veterinary hospital of UFRPE, with a history of lameness and the presence of neoformation in the lateral region of the thigh of the left hind limb. The diagnosis was established by performing fine needle aspiration cytology and the treatment consisted of surgical excision associated with electrochemotherapy as an adjuvant therapy.

The Mandatory Supervised Internship (ESO) is a mandatory subject of the Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Medicine at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE), which aims to offer the student practical experience and professional improvement. The experience was held from June 26 to September 9, 2022, at the Clínica Oncologica Veterinaria do Recife (CORe), located at Rua Antônio Viera, 245, Madalena, Recife/PE. This report is divided into two chapters. The first describes the activities followed by the student Beto Cherles Coral Rodrigues during the ESO and the second chapter aimed to report the case of a Golden Retriever dog with oral amelanotic melanoma, also followed during the ESO period. . The choice of this case was due to the importance of immunohistochemistry in the conclusive diagnosis of this melanoma. During this period of ESO, it was possible to know a little about the clinical and surgical routine in veterinary oncology; work multidisciplinary with specialists involved in cancer cases; and gain experience in approaching patients and their tutors.
