The activities took place in the pathology department of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science at São Paulo State University (UNESP), Campus Botucatu - SP, from April 1st to April 30th, 2024, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Noeme de Sousa. Additionally, the internship included work at the Laboratory of Parasitic Diseases within the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, Campus Recife - PE, from May 6th to June 19th, 2024, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Leucio Câmara Alves. In the pathology department, cytological examinations, anatomoclinical necropsies, and forensic necropsies were performed. At the Laboratory of Parasitic Diseases, services were provided in the canine leishmaniasis outpatient clinic, including routine tests such as the Knott, Flotac, and Mini Flotac techniques. During the internship period, an article titled ‘Overview of Crimes Against Dogs and Cats and Investigation of Leishmaniasis and Scabies in Animals Under the Care of Protectors in the Municipality of Ipojuca - PE was prepared. Data were collected from the 42nd and 43rd Police Stations in Ipojuca, and visits were made to animal protectors, with evaluation forms completed for dogs, cats, and scabies cases. Six cases from the 42nd police station and six from the 43rd were analyzed. Among the animals evaluated from the protectors, one dog tested positive for Leishmania infantum chagasi amastigotes, another dog had Demodex sp., and a cat tested positive for Notoedres cati. Additionally, in eight cats undergoing trichogram analysis, Lynxacarus radovskyi was found in 100% of cases. Regarding the animals’ history, 54.28% were rescued from abusive conditions. Thus, considering that the Leishmaniasis-positive dog was rescued from abandonment, we can infer, albeit tentatively, the significant connection between animal cruelty and its potential impact on public health.Item Educação em saúde para prevenção das Infecções de Transmissão Hídrica e Alimentar causadas por parasitos com ênfase na Saúde Única(2022-06-03) Silva, Andreza Jocely da; Oliveira, Jaqueline Bianque de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2856383385211373; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3986248628167640Food and Water Transmitted Infections (FWTI) affect mainly socioeconomically vulnerable populations in developing countries, with children being the most affected. The FWTI interfere with children's physical and cognitive development and can even lead to their death. Approaches in the context of One Health are important in the management and control of these infections, along with health education, which is one of the main strategies in the fight against these diseases. Those approaches enable changes in habits that are capable of life quality improvement, being the school environment a convenient space for health promotion, prevention, and education. Therefore, the objective of this research was to carry out activities, build didactic material and evaluate its effectiveness in health promotion regarding the FWTI, using the One Health approach in two municipal schools in the city of Recife, Pernambuco. The educational actions were carried out with 8th and 9th grade students and took place in three moments: (1) application of a questionnaire before the educational actions, to verify the knowledge they already had on the subject; (2) educational activities that consisted of video presentation, reading and delivery of cordel literature, bingo game and human board game; (3) application of the same questionnaire after the educational activities were completed to verify the learned knowledge. In total, 86 students participated in the study. In the first assessment, 40.2% said they didn’t know the FWTI; 83.7% reported not being aware of how FWTI are transmitted; 82.6% didn’t know how to prevent FWTI; 100% didn’t know what is One Health and 100% didn’t know the relationship between One Health and FWTI. In the second evaluation, 100% became aware of all the mentioned FWTI; 81.4% and 83.7% said they were aware of how FWTI are transmitted and prevented, respectively; 66.3% came to understand the concept of One Health and 24.4% said they understood the relationship between One Health and the FWTI. Statistical analysisshowed (p ≤ 0.05) that the educational actions and the used materials contributed to the students' learning on the topic addressed, demonstrating that an actively methodology is quite effective for the apprehension and fixation of information. The results also show the importance of One Health theme’s implementation in school curriculum, since the earlier society learns about its place in the environment, the higher awareness of their impact about it.Item Relatório de conclusão de residência profissional de saúde em medicina veterinária – medicina veterinária preventiva – doenças parasitárias(2023-02-23) Paiva, Wanessa Ingrid de Albuquerque; Alves, Leucio Câmara; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6563157522654726; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6462457811968254This conclusion report describes the activities carried out in the Health Professional Residency Program in Veterinary Medicine - Preventive Veterinary Medicine - Parasitic Diseases, lasting 24 months, from March 2021 to February 2023, with 1,152 hours (20%) of theoretical and theoretical-practical activities and 4,608 hours (80%) of practical activities, distributed over 60 hours per week. 3,648 hours of practical activities were allocated at the Laboratory of Parasitic Diseases, at the Department of Veterinary Medicine, at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, in Recife-PE, and 960 hours in public health activities in Sanitary District VII, in Health Surveillance, in Recife-PE, and in the Support Center for Family Health and Primary Care, in Camaragibe-PE. Its cycle depends on mammals in predator and prey relation, with humans being the accidental host of the larval form of the agent, called hydatid cyst. The main species related to infection in humans are E. granulosus, E. multilocularis, E. oligarthra and E. vogeli, causing cystic, alveolar and neotropical echinococcosis, respectively. Although there are different control programs, the disease is still considered neglected in humans. In animals, it is responsible for economic losses resulting from viscera convictions and loss of carcass yield in slaughterhouses. Control measures include sanitary hygiene education of the population, control of the adult parasite in the definitive hosts and a decrease in their contact with the intermediary's viscera. Such measures receive great attention from the veterinarian, demonstrating the importance of this professional in public health. Considering the fact that the disease is considered neglected in human beings, the objective of this study is to carry out a brief review of the characteristics of the agent, the disease and its impact public health, drawing attention to its occurrence.Item Parasitologia e educação: memes e histórias em quadrinhos como ferramentas de ensino(2022-09-30) Santana, Hellen da Silva; Fonsêca, Francinete Torres Barreiro da; Santos, Arlene Bezerra Rodrigues dos; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3921810982238132; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2545929400317612; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2559508363445285Parasitic diseases affect thousands of people around the world due to issues related to lack of basic sanitation, poor hygiene measures and access to drinking water. Health and education institutions invest in actions to raise awareness of the population regarding prevention and treatment attitudes. In the dissemination tools, linguistic and cultural barriers can be perceived that prevent the understanding and internalization of the knowledge to be worked on. In the teaching-learning process, the tools must bring clarity to the themes and allow for more effective learning. It is possible to use comics and other textual genres as they are elements of easy adaptation of language, images and present situations experienced by the interlocutors. The objective of this work was to create both educational and attractive tools with greater ease of contextualization and internalization to be distributed physically (printed) and digitally (digital platforms) addressing topics of parasitology. In this work, memes and types of comics with parasitology themes were elaborated, distributed through an account on Instagram and an application mounted on the Fábrica de Aplicativos platform receiving the name of “Parasitos e HQ`s” on both platforms. The productions were accepted by the majority of users who expressed their opinions, praise, criticism and suggestions through comments and likes on Instagram and a Google form in the application. It was observed that the majority of users were between 22 and 30 years old and had higher or secondary education. Most found the creations fun, easy to understand and that contributed to learning. The suggestions will allow for better adaptation and continuous improvement over the time that the tools will be available on the platforms. It is concluded that the creation of such textual genres can attract attention and promote the contextualization and internalization of themes of parasitology and that the distribution through social networks of these tools is easy, fast and effective.
