(2021-02-22) Lima, Willyanne Darline Fernandes de; Pinheiro Junior, José Wilton; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3931532041328673; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0427802281675815
This research aimed to evaluate the prevalence of Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) infection in canines from shelters in the metropolitan region of Recife, Pernambuco. Two shelters were visited and 45 dogs were sampled by convenience. Ocular secretion swabs were collected for viral antigen testing and the tests were performed at the Laboratory of Animal Virology (LAVIAN). The commercial Alere Cinomose Antigen (Ag) Test Kit® was used. The overall prevalence was 13.33% and the prevalence per shelter was 21.46% in shelter A and 0% in shelter B. Considering the results obtained, we observed the occurrence of CDV infection in canines from one of the shelters in the metropolitan region of Recife. Thus, management measures such as the introduction of quarantine should be implemented in order to reduce the risks of the occurrence of the disease.

The mandatory supervised internship, last course of the Veterinary Medicine program, demonstrates to be a fundamental moment in a students life, since it brings a practical background in the desired field of work. In this regard, a whole professional practice is experienced, in order to prepare the newcomer into the labor market. Therefore, the report describes the activities performed in the veterinary clinical pathlogy field, in the 4 Patas Veterinary Hospital, under the supervision of the veterinarian Camila Coutinho; and in the Harmonia Veterinary Hospital under the supervision of the veterinarian Allison Macêdo. The total workload was 420 hours, divided into 210 hours per clinic, from August 28th till December 9th, 2020. The addressed data was obtained via laboratory test count. In addition, it is important to point out that a scientific paper was developed from data collection during the internship in the Harmonia Veterinary Hospital, in which blood tests reports from dogs with viral cytoplasmic inclusion bodies (Lentz bodies), pathognomonic to Canine Distemper, were analyzed and compared to the described literature, highlighting the importance of the total blood count, as well as the need of other laboratory tests of confirmatory nature. Thusly, it is concluded that, the mandatory supervised internship was essential in the learning of professional routine, establishing work relationships, exposure to different settings, understanding of existing dynamics in each setting and also, technical enhancement of theoretical-practical knowledge acquired during undergraduate studies.
