The extraction of shellfish on the Brazilian coast, especially on the northeastern coast, is considered traditional, where this culture permeates generations of family members. At the same time that the shellfishing activity is carried out, the shells resulting from the activity are discarded improperly, generating an environmental liability with environmental impacts in the small, medium and long term, forcing the need to implement a shellfish management plan. activity, from logistics for transporting workers, to processing the product obtained and the waste generated. The objective of this research was to survey the needs of shellfish gatherers with regard to carrying out their daily activities, with the aim of proposing the implementation and use of a basic unit of the container type to process their products, promoting good practices in hygiene and safety. The research was carried out between the months of August 2019 and February 2020, in the region of Canal de Santa Cruz, municipality of Igarassu - Pernambuco, and a bibliographical review survey focused on the problem pointed out in the research. Visits to the location, image recording and data collection were carried out with the aid of a questionnaire, where the shellfish gatherers pointed out some of their main needs during work.

The coronavirus pandemic has seriously affected human health, although some improvements on environmental indexes have temporarily occurred, due to changes on socio-cultural and economic standards. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impacts of the coronavirus and the influence of the lockdown associated with rainfall on the water quality of the Capibaribe and Tejipió rivers, Recife, Northeast Brazil, using cloud remote sensing on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform. The study was carried out based on eight representative images from Sentinel-2. Among the selected images, two refer to the year 2019 (before the pandemic), three refer to 2020 (during a pandemic), two from the lockdown period (2020), and one for the year 2021. The land use and land cover (LULC) and slope of the study region were determined and classified. Water turbidity data were subjected to descriptive and multivariate statistics. When analyzing the data on LULC for the riparian margin of the Capibaribe and Tejipió rivers, a low permanent preservation area was found, with a predominance of almost 100% of the urban area to which the deposition of soil particles in rivers are minimal. The results indicated that turbidity values in the water bodies varied from 6 mg. L− 1 up to 40 mg. L− 1. Overall, the reduction in human based activities generated by the lockdown enabled improvements in water quality of these urban rivers.

During 2019, oil slicks were observed on beaches on the coast of the Northeast region of Brazil and reached about a thousand kilometers off the Brazilian coast. The stains contaminated beaches, estuaries, reefs and mangroves and reached several organisms. This substance is capable of causing high mortality, decreased density and changes in the structure of marine communities. The crustaceans of the infraorder Axiidea, known as ghost shrimp, are burrowing marine organisms, considered important ecosystem engineers and widely used as bait for fishing. The study aimed to analyze the density and population structure of Callichirus corruptus on an oil-impacted beach in Pernambuco, in addition to comparing it with previous studies carried out in the area. Collections were carried out in the months of October/2020, December/2020, May/2021, February/2022, June/2022 and August/2022. The population density of C. corruptus on Conceição beach ranged from 0 to 28 ind/m², with an average density of 6.41 ind/m². Altogether 111 individuals were collected, 28 males and 83 females and 29 of them were ovigerous. The sex ratio was significantly biased towards females. Most individuals had an DO length of 10 to 13 mm, with significant differences between the sexes. For CP and LP There were no significant differences between males and females. The average fecundity was 3844.11 eggs. The present study brought new information from the population of Conceição beach and found that the 2019 oil spill may have caused a decrease in the number of individuals in the population. In view of this, we emphasize the importance of this and other studies related to environmental impacts to which burrowing shrimp are susceptible, as well as encouraging the continuity of research with ghost shrimp.

To assess the impact caused by the oil spill on artisanal fishing in the state of Bahia, a field research was structured a year later, as well as a quantitative research using the Joaquim Nabuco Foundation (Fundaj Foundation) database for the state of Bahia. Altogether 605 fishermen answered the quantitative research questionnaire belonging to ten different municipalities in Bahia and 40 fishermen were interviewed for qualitative research in three communities of Porto Seguro and Prado municipalites, in the Extractive Reserve of Corumbau-BA. From the qualitative and quantitative research, respectively, 34 / 85% fish as their main activity, and 55% and 51.5% have "Registro Geral da Pesca - RGP" (General Registrer of Fishworkers). In addition to the impact on the environment, 38 and 92.4% said that the oil caused damage to fishing areas, the financial loss was cited: 24 declared zero income in the first months and 16 people had a reduction between 50% and 70% of their income. and 86.4% had an average reduction in family income. Problems such as the difficulty in purchasing other components of basic food and the devaluation of fish, with values taking more than a half year to return to market prices, were mentioned. In addition, during the pandemic period, the demand for fish suffered, resulting in a further decrease in price. Right after the disaster, the pandemic led to disarticulation, as many fishermen do not have remote access conditions. The resistance of traditional and environmental peoples was observed. Despite the sequence of impacts, they continued fishing, which should not be a justification for the lack of responsibility and compensatory actions. Health damage needs to be investigated. In addition, environmental and fish health monitoring needs to be carried out on an ongoing basis. It is necessary to listen to the communities, reinforce digital inclusion to facilitate meetings remotely in the pandemic, aiming to resume the articulations that strengthen the management of territories in a participatory and efficient manner.

Over the years, disposable plastic has been increasingly used recklessly by society. However, its excessive and indiscriminate use has caused great impacts on ecosystems. It is known that environmental perception is an important tool that influences people's attitudes and can be shaped according to socioeconomic factors. Based on this, this research aimed to assess the perception of students in relation to socioeconomic factors, gender and education level, on the impacts caused by disposable plastics. We expected that females and the 3rd year of high school have a greater perception than males and the 9th year of elementary school. The study was carried out in three public schools, in the months of November and December 2019, through a structured questionnaire, with 169 students. Most participants had a perception that favors environmental conservation over disposable plastics, regardless of socioeconomic factors. Students mainly highlighted that students directly affect the ecosystem and the importance of recycling. However, some participants have a negative perception pointing out that plastics are good considering only their usefulness, having a disconnection with the damage caused to the environment. It is assumed that a lack of important gender differences was observed because of social issues coupled with the difference in age of participants. Similarly, in school years, it is assumed that there was no difference in perception because of the grades associated with the high transmission of information via the Internet. Our results indicate that environmental education mechanisms that involve the school community and its surroundings are promising for attitudinal changes that prioritize environmental conservation.
