Axial osteosarcoma is a malignant mesenchymal tumor that mainly affects middle-aged to elderly animals of medium and large breeds. This article describes the first case of telangiectatic osteosarcoma in the state of Pernambuco. The animal initially presented a tumor in the left chest wall as the only symptom. The diagnosis was confirmed after surgical excision of the tumor and sending it for histopathology. The patient was treated with a combination of surgery and chemotherapy based on carboplatin and doxorubicin. The prognosis for the telangiectatic subtype is more unfavorable when compared to other subtypes. Patient survival time was 6 months from the onset of tumor growth.

The Compulsory Supervised Internship (ISC), realized for the conclusion of the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine course, was developed in two stages. The first stage it was made at the UFMG Veterinary Hospital and the second at the Olinda Veterinary Clinic. Among patients followed, an 8-month-old canine patient with dilated cardiomyopathy in all cardiac chambers was selected to have the case reported in this study. The performance of the ISC promoted personal improvement, as it enabled social contact between professionals and tutors. In addition, it allowed associating the theoretical knowledge acquired in the undergraduate course with the practice of the profession, being, therefore, a step of fundamental importance for the completion of the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine course.
