Item Mandibulectomia para exérese de neoplasia em cavidade oral em Phyton morulus bivittatus - Relato de caso(2021-12-06) Cunha, Carlos Filipe dos Santos; Cavalcanti, Grazielle Anahy de Sousa Aleixo; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3165940085830406; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2715177140931064The MSI took place between August 30th and November 17th, 2021 in the surgical sector of Animalis – Surgery and Veterinary Clinic- and Ortovet -Veterinary Orthopedic Center- where a total of 87 patients with their various ailments were followed up. Serving the internship in different places and sectors allowed a unique and enriching experience due to the professional knowledge of the team in the areas of general, reconstructive and orthopedic surgery. During this period, a case of neoplasm in the oral cavity of Python Molurus Bivittatus was treated and it is described in this review. The male snake, weighing 29.950kg, was referred for care presenting signs of edema in the rostral region, dysphagia, pain, as well as a structure of firm consistency near the mandible that protruded ventrally to the region. During the surgical procedure, the presence of bone involvement was confirmed, but taking into account its biology and food biomechanics, only the soft tissue tumor was removed, that is, mandibulectomy was not chosen. Choosing a technique that preserves the mandibular structure allowed a significant improvement in the clinical condition of the patient, since, after a few weeks of postoperative and wound healing, the animal no longer needed analgesics to eat, returning to its normal natural behavior and quality of life. It is concluded that despite the evolution of Veterinary Medicine, when it comes to oncology in reptiles, further studies related to the use of auxiliary therapy, such as chemotherapy are necessary. Therefore, surgery is currently the best treatment option for this condition.
