Item Entre insígnias e brasões: a construção do Movimento Armorial sob a ótica do Diário de Pernambuco (1970-1974)(2024-10-04) Soares Júnior, José Benedito; Silva, Lucas Victor; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0058476610695399; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2171560150857240This research aims to analyze the dissemination of the Armorial Movement in the publications of the newspaper Diário de Pernambuco (DP), in the city of Recife, from 1970 to 1974. Using the newspaper as the source and object, the goal is to identify how the DP disseminated and represented the Movement Armorial in its editions and also address the role of the subjects involved in disseminating the Armorial Movement, their social positions and the state support given to this cultural manifestation. The data for this research was collected in the Hemeroteca Digital, on the National Library website, using the word ‘armorial’ as a filter. Data analysis showed that the discourses produced by the DP are similar to the state discourse in the cultural scope. This discourse aspires to portray the Armorial Movement, especially the Orquestra Armorial de Câmara do Recife as a manifestation that represents the roots of Brazilian culture.Item As abordagens historiográficas recentes sobre o jesuíta Jorge Benci e os novos horizontes de pesquisa(2024-12-03) Maia, Sheyla Mafra Holanda; Leite, Bruno Martins Boto; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3005775363936476; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8345867252412083Historiographical studies on Jorge Benci are far from being abundant compared to those of Jesuits who were his contemporaries, such as Antônio Vieira. The scarcity of works is perhaps justified by the fact that they are, almost always, limited to the analysis of Benciano's work Christian Economy of Masters in the Government of Slaves (1705), limiting the debates about the Italic Jesuit and his productions only to the theme of African slavery. The objective of this study, therefore, is to analyze the historiography produced about Jorge Benci, since the 1980s, in order to point out new questions and paths of analysis for future research on the Jesuit priest.Item Os indígenas aldeados e a guerra na documentação administrativa da Companhia Holandesa das Índias Ocidentais no Brasil (1630-1647)(2019-07-20) Silva, Lucas de Lima; Miranda, Bruno Romero Ferreira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8746246350935536; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1677345577430632In this article, we will discuss the role of the indigenous villagers as an auxiliary military force in the expansion and safeguarding of the territory conquered by the Dutch West India Company from Portuguese America in the 17th century. The underlying questions that led to this research are based on the concepts, theoretical discussions and methods characteristic of a Historical Domain that emerged in National Historiography in the last decades of the 20th century: the “New Indigenous History”. The work of this field has left an important reassessment of the impact of the actions of Amerindian individuals and groups on historical processes and events, in the light of reinterpretations of certain concepts, as well as from the criticism of previous historiographies. To carry out this proposal, we will essentially analyze Dutch administrative sources in order to identify the extent - quantitative and qualitative - of the military employment of indigenous villagers, their relationship with war activity during the period in question and the centrality of the colonial “aldeamento” system to the practices of Dutch and indigenous people in the face of war.Item Disputas, mistura e transformações identitárias: o processo de formação do lugar de Águas Belas e do Aldeamento dos Carnijó, em Pernambuco, entre as décadas de 1650 e 1760(2022-05-31) Santos Neto, José Cordeiro dos; Dantas, Mariana Albuquerque; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8568216121012333; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3864055213140532Between 1654, after the expulsion of the Dutch, and 1760, during the administration of the Marquis of Pombal (1750-1777), several processes were carried out within the captaincy of Pernambuco, which directly interfered in the organization and way of life of the indigenous people. The indigenous people who inhabited the region of the current municipality of Águas Belas, in the countryside of Pernambuco, went through processes of contact, re-elaboration of identities, formation of alliances and conflicts over land, appropriating the colonial mechanisms, according to the limitations imposed and their interests. In this way, this article has as main objective the analysis and interpretation of these relational processes and disputes over land, between the decades of 1650 and 1760, in the formation of the place of Águas Belas and the Carnijó village.Item Teoria e prática: uma análise comparativa entre a legislação ultramarina e a realidade do contrabando de tabaco em Pernambuco no século XVIII(2024-10-01) Silva, Everton Giovanni Albuquerque da; Abril, Victor Hugo; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7978574619584394; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4951193057750967Recently, the study of Portuguese America based on illegal activities has gained ground in brazilian historiography. However, despite the growing trend of historiography on illegal practices in Pernambuco during the colonial period, when it comes to tobacco smuggling, it is difficult to find works on the subject. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the smuggling of this commodity in the Captaincy of Pernambuco in order to understand how this historical phenomenon fits into the social and economic context of Portuguese America. To achieve this goal, a comparative method was used between existing legislation on tobacco trade and administration and official documents that deal with cases of smuggling and/or embezzlement, moving from a global to a regional scale to obtain new perspectives. It was observed that the creation of a rigid legal apparatus that aimed to maintain the commercial monopoly of tobacco was not enough and consequently, alternative ways of trading the commodity were propitiated: smuggling and embezzlement.Item Os indígenas e a guerra luso-neerlandesa (1630-1654): uma análise da historiografia(2024-03-05) Silva, Gabriel Vinícius Oliveira da; Miranda, Bruno Romero Ferreira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8746246350935536; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9368777654940870The Dutch invasions of Brazilian territory (1624-1654) are a strong point within the historiographical field of our colonial period, due to their unique characteristic of being a chapter that, although considered brief within an analysis of Colonial History, is also one of its best documented episodes and, consequently, one that has been worked on. Within this rich period, usually referred to as Dutch Brazil, some subjects seem more recurrent, such as the different types of colonization, the specificity of the so-called 'Brazilian War' and its main characters, among others. Everything is widely debated and many high-quality works can be found, providing a wealth of content for all those interested in the subject. The indigenous issue, in this sense, appears as one of the most relevant and defining in characterizing the period. With this in mind, this paper aims to ask the following questions: How are indigenous people dealt with in the historiography of Dutch Brazil? The aim of this article is to find out how the main authors on the subject deal with indigenous populations and their involvement in the Luso-Dutch wars.Item Representações femininas nas obras de Chico Buarque(2022-10-05) Silva, Sarah Correia de Souza da; Bandeira, Élcia de Torres; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4669638328828195In the last twenty years there have been several changes in historiographical studies and approaches regarding gender issues within the Brazilian academic community, especially with regard to places and perceptions about what is feminine in contemporary contexts. Thus, this work, entitled Representations of women in the works of Chico Buarque de Holanda, aimed to study, research, map and analyze, above all, from the concept of representations presented by historian Roger Chartier, the ways in which the female figure is featured in some of the songs by the artist Chico Buarque (“Sem açúcar”, “Ana de Amsterdam”, “A Rita”, “Carolina”, “Bárbara” and “A História de Lily Brown”). Thus, the analysis of the triad: History-Literature-Gender, point to the possibility of visualizing, debating and understanding the secular constructions around women, the nature of the feminine and the intellectual impacts on perceptions about gender relations.Item “Dos índios do Brasil em geral”: povos indígenas na “História geral do Brasil” de Francisco Adolfo de Varnhagen(2023-09-19) Lira, Maria Augusta Freitas Barbosa Paiva de; Dantas, Mariana Albuquerque; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8568216121012333; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5150234226847838Item A participação indígena nas guerras holandesas (1630-1654)(2023-04-26) Silva, João Paulo Freitas da; Miranda, Bruno Romero Ferreira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8746246350935536; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4194572732499392The presente article is a historiographical review on the Pernambuco Restoration war that caused a great impact on the functioning dynamics of the Captaincies of the North, but not only on the colonizers. The various indigenous peoples in the conflict area were also affected. In the context of war, the most diverse existing indigenous groups ended up taking advantage of the social instability to negotiate both with the Portuguese and with the Dutch, in order to try to change or maintain the dynamics that ended up favoring their interests. These groups of natives had a great impact on the outcome of the combat for both sides, composing a substantial number of combatants in the fights and also applying their own method of warfare. They also conquered military positions and possessions for their adherence to the conflict, which may lead us to reflect on a supposed dynamic of subordination.Item Pensando a governança da América portuguesa: a construção de governadores-gerais modelares na Historia do Brazil, de Frei Vicente do Salvador(2021-12-06) Lima, Vinicius Cavalcante Melo de; Silva, Kleber Clementino da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2821384780282146; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0649611106973735The purpose of this work is to explore the representations created by Friar Vicente do Salvador about four governors-general of Portuguese America, from the 16th century, and to try to understand how this representation is associated with his political project, included in the Historia do Brazil. Born in Bahia, in the 16th century, Friar Vicente, supported by the “general laws” of modern historiography, makes golden images of colonial authorities seeking to create an “ideal” of a governor- general, holder of princely virtues. In his characterization, Tomé de Sousa is the industrious governor; Duarte da Costa is the merciful, meek ruler; Mem de Sá is the “mirror of Brazil's governors” and Francisco de Sousa is the “most popular” governor of Brazil. For this study, the methodology used in the work was based on the discourse analysis and specific readings dedicated to the written world in the modern period, such as the works written by the North American Richard Kagan, the Spaniard Fernando Bouza Alvarez and the British Quentin Skinner. In addition to them, the studies carried out based on the works of Maria Lêda Oliveira and Luiz Cristiano Oliveira de Andrade, both related to our research source, Historia do Brazil.
