The Mandatory Supervised Internship (ESO) represents the final Veterinary Medicine training period at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, covering 420 (four hundred and twenty) hours of activities. During this internship, students can choose their area of activity, which generally aligns with their future professional interests. This article, therefore, outlines the activities undertaken during ESO in two different instances: CETRAS Tangara, which specializes in the care of wild animals, and the HVU - UFRPE Surgical Clinic, which focuses on companion animals. Regarding methodology, at CETRAS Tangara, the student participated in various activities, from primary care for puppies to screening, diagnosis, and clinical and surgical treatment of wild animals. During this period, she experienced the routine of the HVU - UFRPE Surgical Clinic, where surgeries were carried out on domestic animals, as well as pre, trans, and post-operative follow-up. The internship experience narrated here proved to be enriching, improving practical skills in medical and surgical clinics, animal handling, nutrition, and essential care. Finally, it is possible to say that ESO enabled valuable interactions and exchanges of knowledge between the intern and supervisors, strengthening both professional and personal bonds.

The Compulsory Supervised Internship (CSI) is carried out in the 11º semester as a requirement to complete the Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine. This report was developed at the Luiza Leão Medicina Equina Veterinary Clinic (LLVET), under supervision of Dr. Luiza Maria Tenório Leão, in the equine clinical and orthopedic department, and under the guidance of Dr. Grazielle Anahy de Sousa Aleixo, totaling a workload of 420 hours. This report aims to explain the activities carried out during the internship, just like the procedures and clinical cases accompanied, emphasizing orthopedics clinical cases, which had high prevalence during the internship. In addition, this report aims to report a case of a 12-year-old male show jumping thoroughbred horse, with history of lameness in the right forelimb. During the orthopedic clinical examination, it was observed a discreet edema and pain on palpation in the insertion of the lateral branch of the suspensory ligament (SL). It was carried out radiography and ultrasonography exams, confirming the diagnosis of enthesopathy of the lateral branch of the SL and proximal sesamoiditis associated. Clinical treatment consisted of administration of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), cryotherapy, local massage, rest, use of a proper orthopedic horseshoe and trimming, and extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) and class IV laser. Results were satisfactory, once the patient recovered well from lesions and is gradually returning to athletic activities at the present time. Internship was of great value to prepare the student for labor market in the veterinary medicine field, making possible to improve theoretical and practical knowledge acquired during graduation, aside from enable being in touch with renowned professionals, mainly in the equine orthopedic field.

The Mandatory Supervised Internship is part of the curriculum of completion of the course of Veterinary Medicine at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco. The student completed his total workload of 420 hours in the period from September 9 to November 29. The ESO was carried out in two phases: The first at the Medical Assistance and Instelment for Sporthorses Veterinary Team in the city of São Paulo - SP, which provides home sports medical care to more than 250 horse athletes. The second phase was held at the Equine Hospital of Bosdreef, in the municipality of Moerbeke-Waas - Belgium, which has as its main target audience high performance horses. The aim of the internship was to acquire technical-scientific knowledge about the surgical clinic of horses by following several cases in both institutions. During the first stage of the ESO, home visits were made to monitor the horses' performance, athletic performance and health status. In the second stage, procedures were performed in the areas of orthopedics, neurology, medical and surgical clinic and diagnostic imaging. This report describes ESO's activities in two chapters. The first describes the report of the actions developed in the internship, and the second presents a literature review on cell therapies in equine articular, tendon and ligament injuries.

Diagnóstico diferencial na fraqueza induzida pelo exercício em cães – revisão de literatura e relato de caso
(2019-07-03) Muniz, Maysa Ceci Soares; Tudury, Eduardo Alberto; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2906155138699806; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7673406937532093
Exercise-induced weakness has a multifactorial character and may be caused by hydroelectrolytic, metabolic imbalances, neurological disorders and orthopedic disorders. The present paper reports the case of an 11-year-old male castrated Yorkshire Terrier dog seen at HOVET-UFMG. With a history of alteration in ambulation characterized by walking with difficulty in the hind limbs, progressing to the thoracic, aphonia and after three days presenting these clinical signs, stopped moving. Physical examination revealed normal vital parameters. At the neurological examination, she was alert, with outpatient tetraparesis, decreased withdrawal reflex in all four limbs even before the exercise. After the exercise, this exam was redone, and the results obtained were similar to the previous ones. During the wheelbarrow test, the animal had its head bent to the ground and exhibited general weakness. Blood counts, serum biochemistry (liver and kidney) and serum glucose measurements were performed. Serological tests for toxoplasmosis and neosporosis were negative. After intravenous infusion of anticholinesterase (neostigmine methylsulfate) the animal showed no improvement. The treatment instituted was the use of pyridoistigmine bromide and prednisone. On the second return, the tutor reported improvement before the medication and only a few reports of falls during the use of the medication. Pictures of exercise-induced weakness include several diseases in the differential diagnosis, some of which are not ruled out by the complementary exams performed. It is believed that it would be necessary to assess basal rates of thyroid hormones, parathyroid hormones, hormone assessment of the adrenal gland; electromyographic examinations, muscle and peripheral nerve biopsy, demonstration of circulating antibodies against nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the musculature and orthopedic examinations. The conduction of the clinical case until the diagnostic conclusion in patients with exercise weakness is sometimes impaired by the limitation of the complementary exams.

(2019-01-11) Nascimento, Rummeniggue José de Oliveira; Tenório, Ana Paula Monteiro; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1785548386077618
For the completion of the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine course at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE) it is necessary to perform the Mandatory Supervised Internship (ESO), which has a workload of 420 hours. This ESO was carried out at the Veterinary Hospital of UFRPE in Recife / PE and at the Pet Shop Veterinary Clinic Dog Fashion in Carpina / PE, from September to December 2018. The objective was to report on the activities carried out at ESO and the daily routine of sectors, as well as to report a case experienced during the internship period. The case of a 3-year-old Poodle dog attended at the Veterinary Hospital of UFRPE presented a symptomatic picture of lameness and pain when erecting the posterior limb, which was subsequently diagnosed with grade II medial patellar dislocation . Surgical treatment was indicated to deepen the trochlear sulcus and in association with deepening, the imbrication of the joint capsule was also performed. The two techniques were performed in association with the purpose of obtaining a better surgical result. The result was satisfactory, since 15 days after the surgery the patient no longer presented claudication, nor presented dislocation during the physical evaluation, and after 72 days she continued without claudication and without claudication, normally performing her normal physical activities. We conclude that the development of adequate techniques, combined with efficient clinical follow-up, will always be of paramount importance for the healing and well-being of the patient. besides concluding that the accomplishment of the ESO is fundamental for the insertion of undergraduate students in the veterinary routine, always arousing the interest for the professional performance with ethics and acuity.
