Item A aplicabilidade do sistema compost barn para a produção de leite caprino na Zona da Mata de Pernambuco(2024-09-30) Carvalho, Carlos Fernandes Lopes; Carvalho, Francisco Fernando Ramos de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8552194153767195; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9499522180217762Dairy goat farming has been a growing activity in many Brazilian states, especially in regions where traditional management faces challenges related to productivity and sustainability. In this context, the compost barn system, used for bovine milk production, appears as a promising alternative to improve production efficiency and animal welfare. This work aims to analyze whether compost barn is also applicable to the production of goat milk in the Zona da Mata of Pernambuco, addressing its benefits and environmental impacts. The research was carried out through a bibliographical review, comparing publications that analyze the productivity, well-being and health of animals in other types of systems. The results indicate that this new system can provide greater well-being, reduce animal exposure to stressors and increase productivity. It is concluded that the well-being provided by the compost barn system can be a tool to make dairy goat farming viable in the Zona da Mata of Pernambuco.Item Aspectos nutricionais e seus efeitos no bem-estar e desempenho de equinos de vaquejada(2024-09-27) Sá, Amanda Regina Bertho de; Manso Filho, Hélio Cordeiro; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5631206025493479; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9395366050331432Vaquejada, a traditional equestrian sport in Northeast Brazil, imposes significant physical demands on horses, necessitating quick accelerations, sharp turns, and sudden stops. This study emphasizes the critical role of nutritional management in ensuring both the well-being and athletic performance of these animals. Utilizing questionnaires distributed at vaquejada events, we assessed the Nutrition domain within the framework of the Five Domains Model of animal welfare. The research highlighted the importance of consistent feeding practices for maintaining digestive health and preventing metabolic disorders. Additionally, it examined legal regulations pertaining to animal welfare in equestrian competitions, advocating for the alignment of sporting practices with animal protection standards. The study evaluated water and feed quality, quantity, accessibility, and storage conditions, revealing that most parameters received “good” to “excellent” ratings. Ultimately, effective nutritional management emerges as a key determinant for the health and performance of horses, fostering both their welfare and the sustainability of vaquejada.Item Importância do consumo de carnes bovina produzidas através de sistemas sustentáveis(2024-02-28) Souza, Mariane Silva de; Porto Neto, Fernando de Figueiredo; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1475750525654086; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2862133835140101Beef is widely consumed in Brazil, showing constant growth in exports, adopting more sustainable practices in farming systems. Diversity in farming systems generates the importance of beef consumption through sustainable farming systems. Sustainable livestock farming involves technologies added to techniques for the production of meat, milk and derivatives, taking care of animal welfare, the environment and social responsibility in a viable and profitable way. The present study is a literature review that primarily involves the research and electronic collection of articles, magazines and reports on the issue of sustainability in beef cattle farming produced in Brazil, followed by the classification and systematization of the data obtained in the review. bibliographical, in parallel research on the economic and financial issue involving the market and consumption of beef produced in sustainable systems. This literature review provides a reflective perspective on the benefits that sustainable practices add to sustainable livestock farming in Brazil, integrating the producer, reducing deforestation, preserving water resources, preserving forests and moving the internal and external market.Item Utilização de técnicas de condicionamento operante por reforço positivo como estratégia para socialização de aves(2023-09-04) Costa, Hylana Victória Veiga da; Oliveira, Maria Adélia Borstelmann deIt is important to develop and use welfare and socialization tools, as by facilitating the adaptive processes of the birds, we make their quality of life much better. In view of this, the present research was carried out at the Zoo of the Dois Irmãos State Park (PEDI), with four species of birds: three housed in quarantine enclosures (internment) and one in an exhibition enclosure; one of which, the Canindé Macaw, served as a comparative standard for the others, as it was already socialized. The studied animals were called: reference animal, represented by an Ara Ararauna (Canindé Macaw); animal 1, represented by a specimen of Ara mação (Arara canga); animal 2, represented by a specimen of Deroptyus accipitrinus (Anacá); and animal 3, represented by a specimen of Ramphastos toco (Toucano toco), belonging to the PEDI zoo, originating from donations or apprehensions. The training period lasted four months for the toucan toco, the most “antisocial” individual in the project, and three months for the other specimens, between October 2019 and January 2020. A technical sheet was used for each bird throughout the experiment, whose data were statistically analyzed using the R software, version 4.0.1. Six behavioral variables were evaluated, five of them displayed by the birds and one elicited by people from the research team - the variable (e) “Timeout” (reinforcement extinction act). This set included both positive actions (such as: responding immediately and eating in the hand/glove) and negative (such as: pecking and not having a response). The analyzes were carried out in order to monitor the evolution of the birds during the training and to evaluate, at the end of the research, their level of socialization. The duration of training was also analyzed by running data on “response time”, when the bird started to respond, and “stopping time”, when the animal stopped responding. With this, we conclude that, at the end of the experiment, the birds were socialized, as the positive action immediate response reached 75 to 100% recurrence and the negative reaction consisting of pecking was between 0 to 10% with three birds, with the exception of the Toco toucan, whose negative variables have increased in the last month, due to his absence for ophthalmological treatment. We noticed that the average training time reached seven minutes and that the birds under study began to respond normally well and without negative reactions. Comparisons with the already socialized reference bird adequately served as an indication of sociability.Item Perfil alimentar e comportamental de gatos (Felis silvestris catus) domiciliados em Recife e Região Metropolitana(2022-10-04) Arruda, Nataly de Almeida; Lima, Tayara Soares de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3100045021780173; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9817576203092548Cats play a very important role in human life. In Brazil, the feline population has stood out for its growth in comparison to other species. Often, professionals and guardians are unaware of the true nature of the cat, so nutritional and behavioral analysis is the initial measure for the detection of various types of problems of different origins in domestic cats and serves as the main source of evidence for the evaluation of animal welfare. This study aimed to evaluate the dietary and behavioral profile of cats living in Recife and metropolitan region. A questionnaire containing 38 questions was designed and applied to cat guardians in Recife and metropolitan region, in the state of Pernambuco, addressing points about feeding, behavior and welfare of these animals. The results obtained were tabulated and analyzed according to the frequency of responses, through descriptive statistics with the use of Microsoft Excel 2019 and Google Forms 2018 programs. The research on the food profile of domestic cats domiciled in Recife and metropolitan region showed that most of them are cats that feed themselves with food, and that the guardians are concerned about providing a ration according to the physiological conditions of the cat. Regarding the behavioral profile, many cats showed calm, docile, indifferent, scared and agitated behavior when dealing with strangers, and when interacting with other animals, their behavior mostly defined between: Agitated, frightened and aggressive. Some points need attention, a portion of the animals evaluated have free access to the street, have food available at will, do not receive food ideal for their nutrition and, as observed in the results, most are not with the ideal body score index, according to the perspective of their guardians. All these are detrimental factors to the animal, which can develop eating and behavioral disorders.Item Níveis de manganês complexado a aminoácidos na dieta de poedeiras comerciais em fase de cria: indicadores de bem-estar animal(2022-10-07) Macedo, Juliana Belens de; Souza, Lilian Francisco Arantes de; Rabello, Carlos Bôa Viagem; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4760288746238700; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6015344715032401; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1613661031404158The objective was to evaluate the effects of manganese inclusion levels complexed with amino acids in the diet of commercial laying hens during the brooding phase on indicators of animal welfare. The research was developed at the Departamento de Zootecnia of the Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco. The experiment had 648 Dekalb White chicks distributed in a completely randomized design in six treatments, with six replications of 18 hens each. The provided diets had different levels of inclusion of manganese mineral complexes to amino acids of 25, 37, 49, 61, 73 and 85 mg/kg. Welfare indicators were evaluated at 35 days in 18 hens per replicate. The lesions on the keel, skin and comb, footpad and plumage condition were evaluated. The data obtained were submitted to the chi-square test or G test in the BioEstat 5.3 software, using a significance level of 5% (p < 0.05), and presented in the results in percentage frequency (%). It was found that there was no effect of the levels of inclusion of manganese complexes to amino acids on some indicators, such as keel injuries, crest and footpad injuries and condition and damage to the plumage, which indicated that the supplementation level of 25 mg/ kg can be applied to diets with phytase inclusion, without harming the welfare of laying hens in the brood phase. However, it was found that for better skin integrity, the inclusion of the 85 mg/kg level of manganese complexed to amino acids is recommended.Item Níveis de zinco complexado a aminoácidos na dieta de poedeiras comerciais em fase de cria: indicadores de bem-estar animal(2022-10-07) Barros, Tatiane Amaral de; Souza, Lilian Francisco Arantes de; Rabello, Carlos Bôa Viagem; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4760288746238700; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6015344715032401; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6999911364398368The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of inclusion levels of zinc complexed to amino acids in the diet of commercial laying hens in the brooding phase, on welfare indicators related to bone development, feathering and tegument. A total of 648 Dekalb White chicks were used, from 1 to 35 days of age. The birds were housed in cages with the density recommended by the manual and distributed in a completely randomized design, consisting of 6 treatments, of 6 replicates and 18 birds per experimental unit, totaling 36 experimental units. The treatments consisted of a diet formulated with corn and soybean supplemented with 18, 30, 42, 54, 66 and 78 mg/kg of amino acid-complexed zinc, respectively. Water was provided ad libitum and the ration adjusted weekly according to the needs of the birds and the lineage manual. Welfare indicators were adapted and evaluated based on the Welfare Quality protocol for laying hens during the first 6 weeks of life. Amino acid-complexed zinc supplementation did not influence welfare indicators when aspects such as injury to the keel, skin, crest and foot pad, as well as plumage cover, deficiency and damage to the plumage in the brooding phase were observed.Item Condicionamento operante como ferramenta de promoção de bem estar de animais em cativeiro(2022-05-31) Costa, Nathaly Rayana Nunes da; Porto Neto, Fernando de Figueiredo; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1475750525654086; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0612169779839408The learning process is long, but necessary, whether in humans or animals. In this case, operant conditioning brings the possibility of handling with greater well-being, greater comfort for animals and handlers. As a form of enrichment, conditioning is still not widespread and used in zoos.It should be seen as an alternative to reduce stress and interventions that can be performed without the need for animal sedation, such as a simple examination to detect possible skin injuries, for example. The animal conditioning process must be done in stages, knowing and identifying the natural behaviors of individuals and respecting them. Determining goals and commands to be used, which must be useful, functional and that serve for various types of interventions. The handlers must be together with the trainers, so that there is a science of the commands, the way they must be performed, use or not of tools that can assist in these commands, such as clicker or target. With the insertion of the command, the learning and the fixation of it, the tool shows how animal welfare and respect for the five freedoms guarantees a comfortable and long life in captivity for animals.Item Ovinocultura: bem-estar e seu impacto na produção animal(2020-10-29) Lins, Lillian Brito; Monnerat, João Paulo Ismério dos Santos; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3851426263880079; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0758124580476038In the quest to understand the concept of well-being, the knowledge of animal physiology, biology and ethology is also necessary. Thus, the development of animal husbandry that values quality of life requires respect for the five freedoms, so that the animal will be able to maintain its homeostasis and face and persevere in the face of situations imposed on it in a different environment from its natural habitat. Although sheep (Ovis aries) were one of the first species domesticated by mankind, in Brazil, a country with a flock of more than 13 million (IBGE, 2018), recommendations or specific legislations to improve the well-being of this species are not yet available. Therefore, one must always seek greater productivity while affecting as little as possible the quality of life of the animals, resulting in high quality products for human consumption, in addition to ensuring safety, comfort, sanity and optimization of the human-animal-environment relationship. Animal welfare has become an increasingly discussed topic in the area of animal production and also by the consumers, who are increasingly aware and curious about what happens in rural properties and production systems. The realization of studies in order to allow greater understanding and clarification on the theme, in its most diverse areas, is crucial in the current world scenario.Item Monitoramento do comportamento e uso do recinto de papagaio-verdadeiro (Amazona aestiva) no Zoológico Estadual de Dois Irmãos(2019-12-02) Rodolfo, Roberta de Andrade; Lima, Tayara Soares de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3100045021780173; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6139356578381236The Turquoise-fronted amazon (Amazona aestiva) is one of the most purchased animals for the company of man, although not endangered, is one of the most smuggled animals. This entails various apprehensions from environmental agencies and as a result they are destined for captivity in different locations such as zoos, shrines and sorting centers, as most cannot return to nature. For this reason, it is important to promote welfare for these animals, as this way, there is better quality of life for the animals and consequently, more health. With this in mind, the monitoring was carried out at the Dois Irmãos State Park (PEDI), with five adult parrots (3 females and 2 males) weighing 400g, healthy, adult, belonging to PEDI, from donations and seizures. The animals were housed in a 28.2m² and 2.80m high enclosure. The monitoring period was 23 days, being the first seven days for adaptation of the animals to the evaluators and sampling, and the other days for experimental data collection. Sampling was performed by the ad libitum method at alternate times totaling 28 hours of registration. The behaviors raised in the sampling were used to elaborate the etogram, categorized as: animal interaction to the enclosure, social interaction, maintenance and displacement behaviors. The discontinuous recording method of the animals was the instantaneous scanning method, used for 16 days, totaling 128 hours of registration and 1568 events. To analyze the environment, it was taken into account the space that the animals occupied in the enclosure, being the enclosure divided into four quadrants of imaginary lines. Statistical analysis was performed by calculating the percentage of mean time spent by animals in each quadrant and behaviors, using the Excel program, the parrots remained in active state at 42% of frequency and used the QC2 quadrant at 44% of frequency. The environmental enrichments indicated were physical, cognitive and dietary in the morning and in the quadrants QA2, QB1, QB2, QD1 and QD2.
