Item Os indígenas aldeados e a guerra na documentação administrativa da Companhia Holandesa das Índias Ocidentais no Brasil (1630-1647)(2019-07-20) Silva, Lucas de Lima; Miranda, Bruno Romero Ferreira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8746246350935536; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1677345577430632In this article, we will discuss the role of the indigenous villagers as an auxiliary military force in the expansion and safeguarding of the territory conquered by the Dutch West India Company from Portuguese America in the 17th century. The underlying questions that led to this research are based on the concepts, theoretical discussions and methods characteristic of a Historical Domain that emerged in National Historiography in the last decades of the 20th century: the “New Indigenous History”. The work of this field has left an important reassessment of the impact of the actions of Amerindian individuals and groups on historical processes and events, in the light of reinterpretations of certain concepts, as well as from the criticism of previous historiographies. To carry out this proposal, we will essentially analyze Dutch administrative sources in order to identify the extent - quantitative and qualitative - of the military employment of indigenous villagers, their relationship with war activity during the period in question and the centrality of the colonial “aldeamento” system to the practices of Dutch and indigenous people in the face of war.Item Os indígenas e a guerra luso-neerlandesa (1630-1654): uma análise da historiografia(2024-03-05) Silva, Gabriel Vinícius Oliveira da; Miranda, Bruno Romero Ferreira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8746246350935536; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9368777654940870The Dutch invasions of Brazilian territory (1624-1654) are a strong point within the historiographical field of our colonial period, due to their unique characteristic of being a chapter that, although considered brief within an analysis of Colonial History, is also one of its best documented episodes and, consequently, one that has been worked on. Within this rich period, usually referred to as Dutch Brazil, some subjects seem more recurrent, such as the different types of colonization, the specificity of the so-called 'Brazilian War' and its main characters, among others. Everything is widely debated and many high-quality works can be found, providing a wealth of content for all those interested in the subject. The indigenous issue, in this sense, appears as one of the most relevant and defining in characterizing the period. With this in mind, this paper aims to ask the following questions: How are indigenous people dealt with in the historiography of Dutch Brazil? The aim of this article is to find out how the main authors on the subject deal with indigenous populations and their involvement in the Luso-Dutch wars.Item Entre o sertão e a Companhia: uma análise sobre a relação entre o povo Tarairiú e neerlandeses durante a dominação neerlandesa nas Capitanias do Norte (1630-1654)(2024-03-05) Oliveira, Júlia Samahra Santos de; Miranda, Bruno Romero Ferreira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8746246350935536; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0030330461417897This paper seeks to analyze the complex situations of contact and relations established between the tapuias and the Dutch during the years 1630 to 1654, a period that refers to the Dutch domination of the captaincies of northern Brazil. The essay begins with a historiographical contextualization of the studies carried out on indigenous peoples over time. It then critically analyzes the sources and narratives dealing with the tapuias peoples, understanding that these writings, mostly by Dutchmen, were imbued with pejorative views and prejudices against them. The Dutch, like other Europeans, constructed justifications for their civilization in their narratives. In a third section, the work chronologically outlines the main moments of contact and alliance building between the Dutch and the tapuias. It seeks to understand the perspectives and interests of the latter within the complex colonial sphere.Item O Conselho Ultramarino Português e a comunicação da Capitania de Pernambuco com a Corte em tempos de guerra: 1644 - 1654(2024-02-28) Meireles, Douglas Rafael Kettner; Almeida, Suely Creusa Cordeiro de; Oliveira, Luanna Maria Ventura dos Santos; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4568221860409469; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5060116886139677; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9827801024333288The present work aims to analyze the correspondence sent from the captaincy of Pernambuco to Portugal, between the years 1644 and 1654, as contained in the Overseas Historical Archive (OHA), accessed through the Baron of Rio Branco Rescue Project, coinciding with the final moments of what is known as “Dutch Brazil”. Although these documents were addressed to the Portuguese monarch, they entered the court through the desks of the Overseas Council: an organ created in 1642 that received the majority of demands from various places within the Portuguese overseas empire. By observing the global and local historical context of the production of these documents, namely the Iberian Union (1580-1640), the Eighty Years' War (1568-1648), and Dutch Brazil (1630-1654), as well as the formation and early years of the Portuguese Overseas Council, it is possible to better understand the correspondence in question, with its senders and subjects, within the context of war.Item Um antro de doenças: guerra, cotidiano e condições de saúde no Recife holandês (1630-1654)(2018-08-27) Belfort Júnior, Wilson Pires; Miranda, Bruno Romero Ferreira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8746246350935536; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7537105628785587This article aims to present, in the form of a historiographic review, the daily life of the population of Recife during the Dutch occupation in the North of Brazil, specifically dealing with the city’s health conditions between 1630 and 1654. The study focuses on the area chosen to host the local government of the West Indies Company, where problems related to environmental degradation, potentiators of diseases among the inhabitants, hinder to maintain the population’s healthy. This state of affairs was influenced by the choice for the estuarine zone, where commercial operations were already carried out and the main infrastructures for this purpose were already in place (seaport and warehouses). The negative factors which the elected area offered the population, such as the maintenance of salubrious conditions to the detriment of the military defense, stood out especially after the end of the administration of Count Johan Maurits van Nassau-Siegen in 1644. The analysis tries to relate occurrences of diseases, epidemic or non-epidemic, in the invading population already deprived of food and other supplies during the long insurrectionary period. In the last eight years of Dutch occupation, the reductions of the occupied territories and the concentration of population in the urban area of the Company's local headquarters, caused a loss of salubrious conditions for the resident population, and the casualties ended up potentializing the loss of resistance capacity by the occupants.
