Item Aspectos nutricionais e seus efeitos no bem-estar e desempenho de equinos de vaquejada(2024-09-27) Sá, Amanda Regina Bertho de; Manso Filho, Hélio Cordeiro; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5631206025493479; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9395366050331432Vaquejada, a traditional equestrian sport in Northeast Brazil, imposes significant physical demands on horses, necessitating quick accelerations, sharp turns, and sudden stops. This study emphasizes the critical role of nutritional management in ensuring both the well-being and athletic performance of these animals. Utilizing questionnaires distributed at vaquejada events, we assessed the Nutrition domain within the framework of the Five Domains Model of animal welfare. The research highlighted the importance of consistent feeding practices for maintaining digestive health and preventing metabolic disorders. Additionally, it examined legal regulations pertaining to animal welfare in equestrian competitions, advocating for the alignment of sporting practices with animal protection standards. The study evaluated water and feed quality, quantity, accessibility, and storage conditions, revealing that most parameters received “good” to “excellent” ratings. Ultimately, effective nutritional management emerges as a key determinant for the health and performance of horses, fostering both their welfare and the sustainability of vaquejada.Item Treinamento de cavalo de vaquejada no estado de Pernambuco(2019-01-22) Leite, Ludmilly Anny Maria da Silva; Manso Filho, Hélio Cordeiro; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5631206025493479In the present work the objective was to characterize the types of training of competing horses, trying to show the growth of these horses, from the time when the activity was considered rural, until today where it is already part of the daily life of the great cities of the Northeast and Brazil . For the development of the work was carried out a research with the participation of Training Centers of vaquejada so questionnaires were applied to breeders and trainers, with questions directed the training techniques of the animals during the period from October to December in the state of Pernambuco. Thus, we evaluate the daily training activities, verifying if the trainer is aware of the rules of well being applied in these techniques and seeing the effect that this training exerts on these horses. With this, we demonstrate the work relationships that exist in this activity, with specific horses for the practice of exercises for vaquejada competitions. Faced with this expansion in more detail, we did a study on the different types of training in the state of Pernambuco competitors of vaquejada of the quarter mile race that are the most indicated, today for the sport. This work demonstrated that the Cowboys Horses deserve more attention from their breeders.Item Avaliação do perfil morfométrico de cavalos da raça Quarto de Milha de Vaquejada(2018-08-24) Santos, Vinícius Henrique da Silva; Manso Filho, Hélio Cordeiro; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5631206025493479The Vaquejadais a genuine northeastern equestrian sport, of centenary origin, due to the cattle breeding in the Sertão.In this sport, Quarter Horse stands out for being an animal of temperament docile and extremely fast in races of short distances, comprising about ninety percent of the animals used in a competition. With the increase of the popularity of the Vaquejada, there was a greater search for animals that stood out in the tests, that is, of superior genetics and for that, crossings were thrown, turned only for the genealogy.Biometrics is intended to aid in the breeding programs, definition of racial pattern, identification of defects, as well as the selection of specific abilities that the animal will perform, since equine morphology correlates with function. The objective of this work was to evaluate the biometry of Quarter Horse animals used in the sport of Vaquejada. A total of 45 animals were evaluated. 12 equines of Pull in Training (PTr), 22 equines of Pull in competition (PCom) and 11 equines ofhelper (E). Data were collected from 10 linear measures, in addition to body mass. The data were submitted to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the means were compared by the Tukey test, with significance level of 5%. SigmaPlot 13.0 was used for windows in all statistical analyzes. Significant measurement (P <0.05) for height of the withers, croup height, body length, croup length, thoracic perimeter, breast width, in addition to the body mass, being the values found superior in the pull animals compared to the helper. The results showed that the Vaquejadahorses have different biometrics because they perform different functions. This information can contribute to guide which function the animal will play in the sport, as well as its training.Item Termografia como parâmetro de análise fisiológica de cavalos durante a competição de vaquejada(2019-12-06) Nicoloff, Ana Luiza Bezerra de Melo; Hunka, Mônica Miranda; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1815463974122207; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2889913114773940Infrared thermography allows to detect thermoregulatory changes, being a useful tool to assist in the localization of the inflamed area or to identify subclinical atrophies. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the thermography and changes in the physiological parameters of horses at different times during the competition. Thirteen Quarter Horse horses of both sexes, aged between six and nine years old and live weight ranging from 525 ± 25 were used. The physiological parameters heart rate, respiratory rate and rectal temperature were evaluated at four moments (rest, before the race, post race and rest after race). In addition, thermographic images of the eye, ear, oral mucosa, anterior limb hoof bulb and hind limbs were captured. Temperature and relative humidity were monitored. The physiological variables and the horse's surface temperature increased after exercise and decreased after bathing, suggesting evidence of vasomotor mechanisms for horse thermal exchange. It was concluded that the infrared thermography allowed to accurately determine the horse's body surface temperature, being an alternative to precisely the impact of environmental factors and physical effort, supporting the decision and promoting animal health and welfare.
