The Santa Inês breed is a sheep breed widely used in Brazil, this factor is due to the adaptability and prolificacy of the breed, which on average is 1.4 lambs every two years. One of the techniques being studied are natural estrus inductions associated with the use of pharmacological protocols, including prostaglandin + male effect, which both stimulates follicular growth and also synchronizes estrus in this species. The objective of this course completion work was to report the experience of using prostaglandin in inducing estrus in Santa Inês sheep raised in the Department of Animal Husbandry at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco - SEDE. We used 28 Santa Inês females raised in a confinement system, fed a diet based on (corn, wheat and soy) 200 g of concentrate/day, Tifton hay, water and mineral salt ad libitum. For estrus synchronization/induction, the animals were arranged in three groups (10, 10 and 8 animals), in order not to overload the breeders. To induce estrus, 0.3 ml of Cloprostenol Sodium (CIOSIN) was administered intramuscularly and repeated after seven days. After 48-72h the females were subjected to natural mating. Pregnancy diagnosis was performed using a trans-rectal ultrasound examination (ALOKA 100), starting on the 35th day after mating. 27 females were able to enter the estrus induction program. From the semiological evaluation, the females were classified according to their body condition score (BCS), where they presented scores between the ranges of 2.5 and 3.5. Regarding the observation of estrus, 100% of the females entered estrus after the second dose of PGF2a, on average 48h after the second application of the hormone. The conception rate showed a percentage of 88,88 % and the fertility rate was 81.48% (22/27). The birth rate was 181.81%, the total number of lambs born was 40 animals (22 males and 18 females), with an average weight of 3.365kg, with a lambing interval of 21 days between the first and last female. submitted to the protocol without transfer. The use of reproductive biotechnology is a viable alternative, as it allows births to be scheduled for a period that meets the needs of researchers from the Department of Animal Science at UFRPE-SEDE. The option to choose the protocol using prostaglandin F2a (PGF2a) was based on practicality and efficiency, as the calving period was reduced and the herd's birth rate increased, meeting our needs.

The Compulsory Supervised Internship (ESO), a compulsory subject in the last term of the Veterinary Medicine course, took place in two stages: the first was in the field, in the area of equine reproduction, with Dr. Sandra Victalino at 6 properties in the municipality of Moreno, located in the Metropolitan Region of Recife-PE, and in the municipalities of Chã Grande and Gravatá, both located in the Central Agreste region of Pernambuco, between the dates of 06/05/2023 and 07/21/2023. The second stage of the internship took place at the Large Animal Outpatient Clinic (AGA) of the Department of Veterinary Medicine (DMV) of the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE), in the area of clinic, surgery and reproduction, from 07/24/2023 to 08/30/2023, from Monday to Friday, accounting for a total of 420 hours of supervised internship. During the ESO period, students were supervised by Prof. Dr. Gustavo Ferrer Carneiro, professor at UFRPE, and by two supervisors, one for each period: Dr. Sandra Lacet Victalino Mancebo and Prof. Dr. Sandra Regina Fonseca de Araújo Valença, professor at UFRPE. The ESO period allows students to have more autonomy in directing their internship towards the area in which they feel the most affinity or even use this period to try out new areas that they did not have the opportunity to during their undergraduate studies. In this way, the aim of this work is to report on the activities carried out during the ESO period, as well as to report on a case monitored during this period concerning a mare, who is currently 5 years old and who, since she reached reproductive age, has been unsuccessful in her reproductive activity After a few years of assessment and detailed hormonal testing and imaging, the mare presented an hypertrophy of right ovary with a suspicion of a granulosa cell tumor. As a result of this suspicion and the fact that the donor mare was unable to cycle, the decision was made to perform a unilateral ovariectomy in an attempt to return the contralateral ovary to normal hormonal activity. After a histopathological examination, the ovary showed a neoplasm of the sex cord, suggestive of Tecoma. Based on this diagnosis, new treatment attempts will be made in order to promote physiological hormone production in the contralateral ovary.

The objective of mandatory supervised practice in Veterinary Medicine is connecting academic teaching with fieldwork; this is the moment that is possible to gain a technical and extensive view from the future profession because it is a complement for the academic learning. The internship was between 18 April and 2 July, __ 424 hours, the activities were developed in Vitoria da Conquista – Bahia, by experiencing reproductive management in equine farms. Important practices from equine reproduction were developed through palpation and transrectal ultrasonography, hormonal treatments, artificial insemination and embryo transfer. Embryo recipient mares due to weather low temperatures and low luminosity of early winter were temporally out of breeding in early winter. During the internship it was possible to obtain a technical and extensive overview from the future career that is a complement for the academic knowledge.
