Técnicas preditivas para auxílio no diagnóstico de melanomas via imagens
(2024-10-02) Silva Júnior, José Carlos Monte; Soares, Rodrigo Gabriel Ferreira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2526739219416964
Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer worldwide, divided into two main types: melanoma and non-melanoma. Although rarer, melanoma is the most lethal due to its potential to cause metastasis. Non-invasive methods, such as dermoscopy and the ABCDE rule, have been used to avoid unnecessary surgical procedures and have helped in the identification of lesions, contributing to faster diagnoses. With advances in technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has gained prominence, proving to be a promising solution for medical data analysis, especially with the use of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), which can recognize patterns in dermoscopic images and help classify lesions as melanoma or non-melanoma in an automated manner. This project proposes an ensemble of classifiers based on Convolutional Neural Networks to classify dermoscopic images as melanoma or non-melanoma, comparing its performance with validated architectures, such as AlexNet and VGG-16, using Transfer Learning techniques The analyses of Precision, Recall, and F1 Score showed that the ensemble of Convolutional Neural Networks outperformed the models using Transfer Learning techniques, with AlexNet showing better performance than VGG-16. The ensemble of Convolutional Neural Networks demonstrated a greater generalization capability, proving to be promising in capturing relevant features from the images, revealing potential for medical applications, although it still needs refinement to meet clinical standards.

(2023-09-21) Cardoso, Ewerton Henrique Brito Silva; Souza, Daniela Maria Bastos de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4856221548369438; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2019030550611885
The Mandatory Supervised Internship is a compulsory course in the Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Medicine at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, which offers students the opportunity to experience and gain practical experience in up to two areas of veterinary medicine, totaling 420 hours of workload. Activities such as evaluation, medication administration, and collection of material from dogs and cats were carried out at the G-Vet Prevention and Veterinary Health Clinic, in the field of small animal medical practice. The primary purpose of the second part of this work is to produce a comprehensive literature review that addresses the use of thermography in veterinary medicine. In the field of veterinary medicine, thermography represents an imaging approach based on the detection of infrared radiation emitted by bodies, forming a visual representation of thermal variations on the body's surface.

(2021-12-10) Ribeiro, Tatiane Mendonça; Andrade, Moacir Bezerra de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8254242572414884
The purpose of this work was to report the period experienced in complying with the Obligatory Supervised Internship Discipline (ESO) with the disciplinary code 08525 of the Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Medicine, describing as activities of mobile radiographic. Zoom Diagnósticos por Imagem Veterinária LTDA was the Company that ESO occured from September 1st to November 18th, 2021. It had as a supervisor veterinary Paulo Francisco Maciel Póvoas Souto, PhD. All activities were carried out during the discipline Obligatory Supervised Internship of the Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Medicine, at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE), under the supervision of Professor Moacir Bezerra de Andrade, PhD. The ESO provided extensive technical knowledge on imaging using ionizing radiation; pathology diagnosis and medical reports. It was possible to understand the importance of the veterinarian and the use of diagnostic imaging tools to elucidate a problem and a good conduct of the treatment of the diseases.

This work reports the activities carried out in the mandatory supervised internship (ESO), a mandatory subject for completion of the veterinary medicine course, at the Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco. The internship took place in the diagnostic imaging area at the company Focus Diagnóstico Veterinário, a unit located on Avenida Agamenon Magalhães, in Recife-PE, and took place between July 01 and September 15, 2022, under the supervision of the veterinarian Thaiza Helena. During the ESO, it was possible to monitor and assist in the performance of imaging tests, such as ultrasound, radiography, echocardiogram, electrocardiogram, surgical risk, digestive endoscopy and respiratory endoscopy and in the preparation of their respective reports. A scientific article was prepared, this presents data obtained from radiographic studies performed on healthy caracaras for cardiological evaluation.

Uma abordagem para o suporte ao diagnóstico de melanoma por imagem via comitês de autoencoders
(2021-12-17) Silva, Evele Kelle Lemos; Soares, Rodrigo Gabriel Ferreira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2526739219416964
Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in Brazil, representing about 33% of cases of malignant neoplasms in the country. Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that represents only 3% of cancer cases in the organ, but it is considered the most offensive due to high possibility of metastasis, which is the spread of cancer to other organs. Although melanoma is considered the main fatal skin disease, the introduction of new drugs combined with the detection of the tumor in early stages have contributed to positive prognosis. Through the ABCDEs rule of melanoma, it is possible to identify melanoma by watching some characteristics present in the lesion, however, the identification of melanoma through observation is often a failure, especially when it comes from an inexperienced doctor. Therefore, this work aims to select and use Machine Learning techniques to propose a model that can help dermatologists to identify skin lesions through dermoscopic images, serving as a second opinion to say if it is or it is not melanoma. The proposed model was compared with techniques widely used in the literature for solving complex problems, with the objective of presenting superior performance. Using Precision and Recall, the proposed model proved to be comparable to the others, although it had access to only 0,1% of the dimensions of the image, which indicates that the model worked well on finding the characteristics that discriminate skin lesions.

The Mandatory Supervised Internship (referred as ESO in Portuguese) in Veterinary Medicine was carried out in the Diagnostic Imaging area at Proimagem – Clínica de Especialidades e Diagnóstico Veterinário, located in Boa Viagem, Recife/PE, from February 14 to May 27, 2022, from Monday to Friday, with a workload of 6 hours, making a total of 420 hours. Course activities were guided by the advisor Prof. Dr. Jacinta Eufrásia Brito Leite, professor at Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE), and by the supervisor Dr. Rafaela Santos da Silva- graduated by UFRPE, postgraduate in Diagnostic Imaging by Equalis. At ESO, a routine of Diagnostic Imaging sector was experienced from the execution of radiographic and ultrasonographic exams to the preparation of their reports. The aim of the present work is to report the case of a canine, French Bulldog, a fertile male, 11 months old with a history of recurrent regurgitation for about five years. Through plain and contrast radiographs, it was possible to observe the esophagus quite distended by trachea gas, in addition to dorsal displacement of the trachea even as also radiographic signs suggestive of megaesophagus. Therefore, drug treatment with antacid and prokinetic substance was chosen, in addition to a change in dietary management. Through imaging tests in line with patient's clinic, the main suspicion to be investigated was idiopathic megaesophagus, confirmed later through the good response of clinical condition to the treatment.
