(2023-09-19) Santos, Leonildo de Oliveira; Silva, Uiran Gerbara da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7832551328754125
The Galileia Peasant Leagues was an important Brazilian agrarian social movement that emerged in the Engenho Galileia, Vitória de Santo Antão, in 1955. The article begins with an analysis of the historical context that led to the emergence of the Galileia Peasant Leagues. The movement emerged at a time of growing social inequality and income concentration in the Brazilian countryside. Rural workers were subjected to precarious working conditions and were exploited by landowners. The movement operated for nine years, until it was extinguished by the 1964 military coup. During this period, the Galileia Peasant Leagues gained an important space in the national political scene, becoming one of the main defenders of agrarian reform. The movement also contributed to the political awareness of rural workers and to the organization of peasant communities.

Entre açudes e leões: reconstruindo a história da área do Parque Estadual Dois Irmãos
(2023-04-27) Ferreira, Paulo Rafael Macedo; Borges, Caroline; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5680555123049443; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4469929346229890
The Dois Irmãos State Park (PEDI), located in the northern part of the city of Recife/PE, is an urban ecological Atlantic Forest reserve area of 384.42 hectares, with a very specific context, it's a green area highly frequented in the midst of peripheral communities lacking public leisure facilities, but, also, a reference zoo in the conservation of the northeastern Brazilian wild fauna, as well as a center of practical training for young students in the areas of biology and veterinary. The present research sought to identify how the PEDI area was appropriated, identified, and object of disputes by different social groups at different moments in the history of urban development of the city of Recife, and what was the socio-historical context of formation of the PEDI itself. We were able to identify that the dams were the first public arrangements in the area, present since the first half of the 18th century, with origins in the sugar cane mills installed in the region. In the 19th century, the area was used as a catchment source by a piped water distribution company, and from the 20th century on, it started to be remodeled in the modern urban-sanitary molds. We identified that one of the milestones of this process happened in 1925, with the construction of a botanical garden aimed at the production of eucalyptus, and another one in 1939, with the creation of the zoo-botanical park in the same area. These different appropriations and reuses over time have shaped this region of the city differently from other neighborhoods in Recife and are reflected in the present, with new interests focused on the preservation of urban forest areas, but this complex game of political and social forces has also influenced the institutional constitution of the PEDI from the past until today.

(2021-12-15) Ferreira, Aldo de Sousa; Bandeira, Élcia de Torres; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4669638328828195; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5526451022673419
The year 1917 is one of the most important in human history, in addition to having marked the height of the First World War (1914-1918), it was the year of the rise of the political influence of the working class, which, due to the crises caused by the war, organized several strikes demanding better living and working conditions. In Brazil, one of the effects of the conflict in Europe was the scarcity of basic necessities; not having a salary increase in the same proportion, the workers sought their rights through a General Strike. The present work aims to investigate issues related to the 1917 General Strike in Pernambuco, emphasizing aspects such as: the political and social organization of workers in Pernambuco: unions, associations and other types of institutions, the factors that led to the declaration of strike and its consequences, in addition to the participation of newspapers, the main means of communication of the period, as an influencing element of public opinion.
