The internship was initially carried out at the Pernambuco Equine Center, located in the city of Gravatá - PE, and later at the Clinical Pathology Laboratory of the Bixo's Veterinary Clinic, in the city of Jaboatão dos Guararapes - PE, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Gustavo Ferrer Carneiro, during the period from November 1, 2024 to January 21, 2025.During the internship, carried out at the Pernambuco Equine Center, it was possible to actively participate in the laboratory routine, monitoring and assisting in the performance of tests for the diagnosis of Equine Infectious Anemia and Equine Glanders. In addition, at the Clinical Pathology Laboratory, I had the opportunity to participate in several laboratory analyses, including hematological and biochemical tests, urinalysis, parasitological fecal examinations, immunochromatographic tests and dermatological cytology. In addition, I collaborated in the preparation of the respective reports at the end of the analyses, contributing to the interpretation of the results. This report also includes the presentation of an article that addresses platelet activation of platelet-rich plasma obtained and subjected to cryopreservation and lyophilization. The study was carried out at the Andrology Laboratory (ANDROLAB) of the Department of Veterinary Medicine at UFRPE, and was partially developed in collaboration with the Clinical Pathology Laboratory of Clínica Bixo’s.Item Osteossíntese de ulna em potra – Relato de caso(2023-04-27) Oliveira, Maria Gerlane de; Valença, Sandra Regina Fonseca de Araújo; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8405192058078531; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3543760457121819Item Anestesia geral multimodal para celiotomia exploratória em equino (Equus ferus caballus) acometido por síndrome do abdomen agudo – Relato de caso(2024-09-05) Bailo, Vivian de Souza; Batista, André Mariano; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5615914349535394; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4089579627319222The Mandatory Supervised Internship (referred as ESO in portuguese) in Veterinary Medicine was conducted in the fields of Veterinary Anesthesiology and Equine Clinic and Surgery from April 1 to 30, 2024, at the FZEA/USP-Pirassununga Veterinary Hospital, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Adriano Bonfim Carregaro; from May 1 to 31, 2024, at the Clínica Veterinária Guadalupe, under the supervision of M.V. Guilherme Alberto Machado; and from June 1 to 30, 2024, at the FMVZ/UNESP-Botucatu Veterinary Hospital, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Antônio José de Araújo Aguiar. The activities were coordinated by Prof. Dr. André Mariano Batista and totaled 424 hours. This internship provided exposure to the anesthetic routines at USP and UNESP hospitals and the general routine at Clínica Guadalupe. The work aimed to report a case of multimodal general anesthesia for exploratory celiotomy in an equine patient with acute abdomen syndrome. The procedure was performed on a 6-year-old female horse with a history of severe abdominal pain unresponsive to clinical treatment. The acute abdomen syndrome was caused by a fecalith in the descending colon, which was removed during the emergency surgery. Anesthesia was induced with ketamine (2.2 mg/kg) and midazolam (0.1 mg/kg), maintained with isoflurane (2% vol.) in 100% oxygen with mechanical ventilation, and a continuous infusion of lidocaine at 3 mg/kg/h. Due to severe hypotension recorded by the multiparameter monitor, dobutamine, norepinephrine, and hypertonic solution were used to correct this alteration, and fluid therapy with Ringer Lactate and NaCl 0.9% was combined to maintain blood volume. Blood gas analisys monitoring was crucial for assessing the patient's ventilatory function and the need for calcium, potassium, and sodium bicarbonate replacement. With the stabilization maneuvers performed, the patient remained stable throughout the procedure. Post-surgery, the animal experienced a prolonged and poor-quality anesthetic recovery, likely due to systemic changes related to the clinical condition. Thus, equine anesthesia in cases of colic is challenging and requires the anesthetist to have extensive knowledge and practice in physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology to achieve satisfactory results.Item Comparação entre quatro protocolos de preparação do plasma rico em plaquetas na espécie equina(2024-02-02) Xavier, Gabriela Reis; Carneiro, Gustavo Ferrer; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0903050581306709; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3490771668260807The presente work aims to describe the activities carried out during the compulsory supervised internship, a compulsory subject for completion of the Veterinary Medicine course at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco. This report was developed at the Luiza Leão Medicina Equina Veterinary Clinic (LLVET), under supervision of Dr. Luiza Maria Tenório Leão, in the equine clinical and orthopedic department, and under the guidance of Dr. Grazielle Anahy de Sousa Aleixo, totaling a workload of 420 hours. This report aims to explain the activities carried out during the internship, just like the procedures and clinical cases accompanied, emphasizing orthopedics clinical cases, which had high prevalence during the internship. In addition, this report aims to report a case of a 12-year-old male show jumping thoroughbred horse, with history of lameness in the right forelimb. During the orthopedic clinical examination, it was observed a discreet edema and pain on palpation in the insertion of the lateral branch of the suspensory ligament (SL). It was carried out radiography and ultrasonography exams, confirming the diagnosis of enthesopathy of the lateral branch of the SL and proximal sesamoiditis associated. Clinical treatment consisted of administration of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), cryotherapy, local massage, rest, use of a proper orthopedic horseshoe and trimming, and extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) and class IV laser. Results were satisfactory, once the patient recovered well from lesions and is gradually returning to athletic activities at the present time. Internship was of great value to prepare the student for labor market in the veterinary medicine field, making possible to improve theoretical and practical knowledge acquired during graduation, aside from enable being in touch with renowned professionals, mainly in the equine orthopedic field.Item Relatório de Estágio Supervisionado Obrigatório (ESO), realizado na Fazenda Água Limpa, Universidade de Brasília-UnB, em Brasília, DF. The Compulsory Supervised Internship (CSI) is a curricular component of the Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, whose purpose is to provide a professional experience for students to gain real experience and to acquire knowledge theoretical-practical. The CSI was carried out at the “CITEquin - Hospital de Cavalos de Paudalho”, in the equine medical and surgical clinic area, from August 17, 2020 to October 30, 2020, totaling 420 hours. CITEquin is a private hospital that mainly serves equines with 24-hour services and hospitalization. The routine started at 07:00, in which the clinical examination and medication of the hospitalized animals was carried out, each patient had a respective record in which all relevant information is noted. It was followed up 39 cases during the CSI, of which this report highlighted septic arthritis in the left femorotibiapatelar joint in a Quarter Horse female foal. The multimodal treatment was adopted using local and systemic antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, joint lavage and local infiltration. They were important for the cure. The Meropeném medicine had an effective response at the end treatment. The CSI´s experience was important for the consolidation of theoretical knowledge acquired throughout the course and during the training period, in addition to enabling the routine experience of a veterinarian at a Horse Hospital and who also performs field visits.Item Pitiose intestinal em égua Mangalarga Marchador: relato de caso(2020-11-05) Freitas, Christye Taiany Onduras de; Valença, Sandra Regina Fonseca de Araújo; Caju, Fernanda Mafra; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0370600304398405; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8405192058078531; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8205835638335007The Compulsory Supervised Internship (ESO) is a discipline of the Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Medicine at UFRPE, whose purpose is to provide professional qualification to students and complement the theoretical-practical teaching. The internship was carried out at the Hospital de Cavalos de Paudalho, in the area of surgical and post-surgical of large animals, in the period from 02/03/2020 to 05/19/2020, totaling 420 hours. In addition to describing the experience at ESO, this work aims to report the occurrence of intestinal pythiosis in a mare of the MM breed, who was admitted to the hospital showing signs of colic syndrome. Due to the non-responsiveness to the clinical treatment instituted, it was decided to perform an exploratory laparotomy, an ID segment of approximately 10 cm in length was completely obstructed by a granuloma. Due to the infeasibility of this segment, enterectomy was performed, however, the animal did not resist surgery and there was death after a cardiorespiratory arrest. The opening of the mass revealed material that resembles the “kunkers” found in animals with pythiosis. A sample was sent for histopathology, and the exam was compatible with the clinical suspicion of intestinal obstruction by "kunkers". Pythiosis is an infectious disease, cutaneous-subcutaneous and eventually systemic, caused by the oomycete Pythium insidiosum and affecting humans, domestic and wild animals, with a higher prevalence in horses, a species more exposed to risk factors, and consequently, of greater susceptibility. Several losses are associated with the occurrence of the disease in horses, despite promising studies in diagnostic and treatment methods, advances are needed aimed at understanding the pathogenesis for a better understanding of the development of the clinical forms of pythiosis.
