The present work aims to analyze the persecution of religions of African origin in Recife during the New State based on representations constructed by the press. To this end, fieldwork was carried out that favored an analysis methodology, and the production of a survey in some newspapers of great circulation in the city between the period 1937 to 1945. The survey in the city newspapers provided the knowledge of information about the presence of these religions in the city, highlighting the evidence that points to the existence of persecution by the local government at the same time corroborated through the influence that the press had at the time.
