This paper presents a historical overview of rural credit in Brazil from the coffee period (Old Republic) to the strengthening of the term family farming in the 1990s. Then, the history of family farming and its dispute for rural credit with large producers is analyzed. From the second half of the 1990s onwards, the creation of PRONAF as a program aimed at family farming was explored due to its relevance in the country's economy, mainly in the development of the domestic food market. The main goal of this work is to enable the transmission of information about the program and thus enable an increase in the volume of credit accessed by family rural producers in the Northeast due to the great concentration of resources in the South and Southeast regions between 1999 and 2019. Based on collected data, this concentration in these two regions is confirmed and as a practical guide could contribute socially to minimize this great inequality. To measure the concentration of resources in the south and southeast of the country, data on PRONAF will be used, such as the number of contracts and amounts released. After showing the concentration and some possible reasons, we will bring a practical guide that can be guided to access the program.
