This work presents a quantitative research within theoretical and methodological hypotheses of Sociolinguistics (2008 [1972]), in order to show significant data on the discourse of residents of Orocó city. We observed linguistic variation presents in the speech of orocoenses from the selection of the phenomenon of aspiration voiceless fricative alveolar dental phoneme //, which caught our attention due to the great occurrence present in the transcription of the data. The research is based, more specifically, on Theory of Linguistic Variation, by Labov (2008 [1972]), whose study proposal is to observe relationship between the language we speak and the society we live in. This relationship is mutual and intensifies language heterogeneity, which in turn is already internal and natural to the language system. For this study, we contextualize the phenomenon analyzed, the variant [], by means studies on Phonetics and Phonology, which in turn are the studies of speech production. Is stablished a methodology work through the elaboration of a roadmap for research realization in which social and linguistic data, it were collected through interviews, of the transcription of collected data, of the codification and of the running of data through the GoldVarbX computer program. Therefore, we note in the question speech community there is presence of the phenomenon of aspiration [] of fricative //. Among the variables analyzed, those had a higher percentage of influence were: proceeding context, previous context and gender, in this order respectively. However, we consider the inhabitants Orocó-PE city, through our analysis, residents tend to perform little the phenomenon of aspiration.

The present study aims to understand the issues of linguistic variation that are addressed in elementary education in public schools in the city of Flores - PE, to discuss the treatment of linguistic variation in the classroom and to obtain information about how teachers approach the subject linguistic variation. To achieve these goals, the following theoretical basis was assumed: Bagno (2007), Sgarbi and Roncália (2009), Zilles and Faraco (2015) and Faraco (2020), the National Curriculum Parameters (1997; 1998; 2000) and the Common National Curriculum Base (2018). We carried out a bibliographic survey, a collection of information throughout questionnaires via WhatsApp with three teachers from three elementary schoolsas methodological procedures, and, finally, we analyzed the interviews’ responses. As a result, our hypothesis was partially corroborated, since the official documents for Brazilian education provide guidance, but do not assist the teacher with suggestions of practices to consistently approach the subject of linguistic variation in the classroom. Moreover, we understand that, by having an approach that considers linguistic variation as socially inherent, the teachers had taken the first step towards the implementation of a pedagogy of linguistic variation.

This work analyzes the behavior of the palatalization of alveolar fricatives [s] and [z] in medial syllabic coda in brazilian portuguese spoken in the community of Santa Cruz da Baixa Verde - PE, under the theoretical-methodological panoramas of the Theory of Labovian Variation. The alternative forms analyzed in relation to the behavior of palatalization of alveolar fricatives include: unvoiced alveolar fricative [s], voiced alveolar fricative [z], unvoiced alveopalatal fricative [ʃ] and voiced alveopalatal fricative [ʒ]. This research has as main objective to describe the structural and social factors that condition the variation under study and is revealed important because until now there has been no research on the linguistic phenomenon in question in that speech community. The linguistic factors analyzed were the preceding context and the following context. The corpus used was extracted from interviews with informants from the city studied and was divided according to the groups of extralinguistic factors: age, sex and level of education. Linguistic variables that can influence the variation are also analyzed. The results showed that among the [s] and [ʃ] variants, the last one was more performed, mainly in front of [t], as it proved to be a factor favoring the palatalization phenomenon in the speech community. Between [z] and [ʒ], the first presented the most cases, that is, the non-palatalized variant predominated

“Maria eu observei nas palavras que mandastes dizer na carta que tu ainda duvidas do meu amor, mas você não tem razão de assim se expressar”: a variação dos pronomes pessoais Tu e Você em cartas de amor rurais do sertão pernambucano
(2018) Lima, Tallys Júlio Souza; Ataíde, Cleber Alves de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4301066659702331; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6686116967696807
This work aims to present the results of research on the variation of the use of TU ~ VOCÊ in the syntactic position of subject in letters of love produced in the 50s and 70s by two nonillustrious couples from a rural community of the semiarid of the Pernambuco State. In order to analyze the alternation of the treatment forms, we consider the theoretical-methodological contribution of Historical and Variationist Sociolinguistics, aiming to verify the performance of the following factors: category of fulfillment of the filled and unfilled subject and the agreement paradigm between the syntactic elements Subject -Verb (SV). In the quantitative analysis, we were able to indicate: the productivity of the treatment form VOCÊ/TU (LOPES AND CAVALCANTE, 2011), used as a strategy of referring the second person of the discourse. We also identified the preference of executing the pronoun VOCÊ in a filled category, in the two decades observed, some peculiarities in the use of the traditional pronoun TU and the gradual increase of use of the innovative form (VOCÊ) over the years. Considering the agreement paradigm, we can see that, in the remaining documentation for the analyzed period, signs of the current subsystem of treatment used in the state of Pernambuco have been already present: TU/VOCÊ use with average agreement level (SCHERRE et al., 2009; 2015 and 2018).

his research aims to analyze the pronunciationofEnglish Language retroflex in the speech of students of a language school located in Serra Talhada-PE.For that, we use as theoretical and methodological support the assumptions of Variationist Sociolinguistics, which seeks to explain the language in use, as well as its relation with society, in order to analyze the social factors that act on the phenomenon, in the studied community of speech. In the same way, we turn to Phonetics and Phonology, in a Structuralist perspective, with the intention of describing the studied phone, as well as the linguistic factors that can act on it.Assuming that there is variation in the speech of individuals belonging to the same linguistic community, and that this variation extends to the process of learning a foreign language, we select some factors, linguistic and extralinguistic, raising hypotheses that such factors may cause a variation in pronunciationof the retroflex, namely: theposition of the phone in the word, the level of proficiency of the learner and the level of monitoring in the reading of the material used in the data collection. Thus, we recorded the speech of 10 informants enrolled in the selected school language for the research –being 5 of the basic level II and 5 of the advanced level –and proposed the reading of the following material for the collection of data that composed the present study: listof words, list of images and a text containing words that presented the retroflex, in order to ascertain our initial hypothesis that the advanced level would present greater proficiency than the basic level in the pronunciation of the phone. Finally, we performed the corpus analysis, concluding that there is variation inthe English Language learners' speech, confirming that students at the advanced level demonstrate greater proficiency in the retroflex articulation than the students at the basic level, and proving that there are both linguistic factors and factorsextralinguistics favoringvariation, such as the replacement of the retroflex/I/by the tepe by the aspirate/r/, in addition to the erasure of the phone.
