Family farming, essential for food security and sustained by ancestral practices, is marked by the fundamental role of women in the conservation of genetic diversity and the cultivation of traditional varieties. These varieties are vital for the resilience of ecosystems against environmental challenges, but are threatened by modern agriculture and genetic erosion. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the female contribution to family farming and its impact on biodiversity conservation. Using a meta-analysis methodology, the research examines 60 scientific publications, including articles, dissertations, theses, and final papers, to identify trends and gaps in knowledge. Approximately 80% of the studies analyzed include specific information about gender, with 18% focusing specifically on women, reflecting the national reality of female participation in agriculture. Correlation analyses and chi-square tests were applied to investigate the relationship between gender and the use of agrochemicals and organic practices, finding no statistically significant associations. Multiple Correspondence Analysis (MCA) was employed to explore the relationships between seed varieties, methods of acquisition, and geographical locations of farming families in Brazil. The results reveal systemic barriers faced by female farmers, such as limited access to financial resources and agricultural credit. The study also highlights seed selection based on immediate characteristics, the cultural importance of seeds, and the need for supportive policies for family farming. A crucial aspect is the ongoing genetic segregation of Creole seeds, which allows them to adapt to environmental changes and resistance to pests and diseases, although it may result in inconsistencies in production. The artificial selection of Creole seeds by farmers can lead to the loss of valuable genes, underscoring the urgency of expanding the presence of specialized technicians. Family farming in Brazil is revealed in a complex manner, influenced by historical, cultural, and environmental factors.

Corpos-territórios de vidas e lutas camponesas no sertão do Pajeú e agrestes de Pernambuco
(2024-03-05) Silva, Tatiane Faustino da; Aguiar, Maria Virgínia de Almeida; Peres, Flávia Mendes de Andrade e; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2493398194909644; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4665749527709728
This Memorial recounts my journey in the Bachelor's degree in Agroecology at the Universidade Federal Rural Universidade de Pernambuco (2019.2 to 2024.1), highlighting my peasant identity and themes such as agrobiodiversity, living with the semi-arid region, rural youth, and peasant women and their subjectivities. I used methodologies such as bibliographic review of technical and academic texts, reinterpretation and revision of the reports of Field Experiences and University activities carried out during the course, and research of videos and poems about the Sertão do Pajeú, construction of my timeline, and dialogues with the advisor to deepen reflections on the themes. I conclude that training in Agroecology is extremely important and necessary for the development of environmentally, economically, and socially just territories.

In this memorial I present reports of the most striking facts of my personal and academic journey, culminating in my achievement of a bachelor’s degree in Agroecology with an emphasis on Peasantry and Popular Education (BACEP) at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco. In a descriptive way, I sought to portray my identity, origins, learning acquired during the course and plans for the future. To enrich this narrative, I used the “River of Time” tool, a timeline that highlights important moments and lessons learned along the way. The memorial is structured around thematic axes – Knowing, Planning, Acting and Evaluating – in which community and university experiences, immersions and internships are addressed. The experience enriched by the experiences during the course stands out, portraying the importance of traditional/ancestral knowledge and practices in the search for good living. In addition, the themes of Agrobiodiversity and animal husbandry are presented, serving as a guide for the internships carried out. Finally, the memorial aims to show my transformation, presenting a student educator capable of listening, understanding, analyzing and building together based on the present reality.

The rural environment formed by farmers, agroecological experimenters is a space rich in experiences, of ancestral knowledge that is passed between generations constituting itself as a territory of resistance and confrontations to the packages provided by the green revolution that in a way caused and causes social, environmental and economic problems. From this perspective, systematizing and describing agroecological experiences is a way of confronting this model of conventional agriculture. The present work is configured as a case study that seeks to portray the profound reality, seeking to reveal the multiple dimensions present in the agroecological experience of Seu Barrim and Dona Marilene. In the methodology, an analysis will be carried out in the agroecosystem with the purpose of shedding light on the agrobiodiversity present in productive backyards, in agricultural, forestry and cultural assets. As well as conversation circles and an analysis of some qualitative variables of the LUME method such as: Autonomy and gender equity. The data obtained in this research demonstrate the importance and contribution of the experience of Seu Barrim and Dona Marilene in the preservation and maintenance of agrobiodiversity, in the sovereignty and food security of the family, helping to combat the processes of climate change, semi-arid desertification, loss of biodiversity and the degradation of ecosystems, as well as their social contribution.
