The Santa Inês breed is a sheep breed widely used in Brazil, this factor is due to the adaptability and prolificacy of the breed, which on average is 1.4 lambs every two years. One of the techniques being studied are natural estrus inductions associated with the use of pharmacological protocols, including prostaglandin + male effect, which both stimulates follicular growth and also synchronizes estrus in this species. The objective of this course completion work was to report the experience of using prostaglandin in inducing estrus in Santa Inês sheep raised in the Department of Animal Husbandry at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco - SEDE. We used 28 Santa Inês females raised in a confinement system, fed a diet based on (corn, wheat and soy) 200 g of concentrate/day, Tifton hay, water and mineral salt ad libitum. For estrus synchronization/induction, the animals were arranged in three groups (10, 10 and 8 animals), in order not to overload the breeders. To induce estrus, 0.3 ml of Cloprostenol Sodium (CIOSIN) was administered intramuscularly and repeated after seven days. After 48-72h the females were subjected to natural mating. Pregnancy diagnosis was performed using a trans-rectal ultrasound examination (ALOKA 100), starting on the 35th day after mating. 27 females were able to enter the estrus induction program. From the semiological evaluation, the females were classified according to their body condition score (BCS), where they presented scores between the ranges of 2.5 and 3.5. Regarding the observation of estrus, 100% of the females entered estrus after the second dose of PGF2a, on average 48h after the second application of the hormone. The conception rate showed a percentage of 88,88 % and the fertility rate was 81.48% (22/27). The birth rate was 181.81%, the total number of lambs born was 40 animals (22 males and 18 females), with an average weight of 3.365kg, with a lambing interval of 21 days between the first and last female. submitted to the protocol without transfer. The use of reproductive biotechnology is a viable alternative, as it allows births to be scheduled for a period that meets the needs of researchers from the Department of Animal Science at UFRPE-SEDE. The option to choose the protocol using prostaglandin F2a (PGF2a) was based on practicality and efficiency, as the calving period was reduced and the herd's birth rate increased, meeting our needs.

Impacto do estresse oxidativo na maturação de oócitos in vitro: efeito antioxidante do tanino
(2023-09-05) Ramires, Millena Mary da Silva; Souza, Andreia Fernandes de; Batista, André Mariano; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5615914349535394; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6354486109796073; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3731466705214441
In vitro conditions can end up promoting damage to oocytes due to oxidative stress, compromising their quality and success rates in embryo production. Research has reported that supplementing the in vitro maturation medium with different antioxidants helped mitigate damage from oxidative stress. Thes, tannin, which has antioxidant action, arouses interest in studies on its antioxidant potential in oocyte maturation. This study was carried out to promote greater scientific knowledge about the action of tannin on oocyte maturation. Ovaries from adult cows obtained from a commercial slaughterhouse were used. These antral follicles were aspirated to select oocytes with homogeneous cytoplasm and one or more compact layers of cumulus cells. After maturation, these cells were removed by pipetting for subsequent preparation of slides and reading regarding the cellular meiotic stage. The experimental groups consist of different concentrations of Tannin (Sigma), being: TA0 = no addition of Tannin (control); TA1 = 1 μg/mL Tannin; TA10 = μg/mL of Tannin and TA100 = 100 μg/mL of Tannin. With the experiment, similar maturation rates were obtained for all treatments tested: TA0 (79.31%) TA1 (72.63%) TA10 (80.95%) TA100 (73.11%). Regarding the cleavage rates obtained after fertilization, it was observed that treatments TA0 (73.13%) TA1 (63.38%) TA10 (70.90%) presented similar results, while treatment T100 (47.91 %) showed a deleterious effect with a significant decrease in cleavage rates. Therefore, it is recommended that tannin supplementation be carried out in amounts below 100 μg/mL.

Avaliação do índice reprodutivo: ratas hairless (Rattus norvegicus)
(2022-10-05) Oliveira, Joelline Rebecca Pimentel Leite de; Manso, Helena Emília Cavalcanti da Costa Cordeiro; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7040279344981888; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1195823560603023
Several works with small rodents have been carried out since the creation of the Wistar Institute, in 1894, located in Pennsylvania. However, the use of animals in the field of science is nothing new, because in order to promote the development of medicine, the technique of vivisection and dissection has been used as a comparison to human physiology since ancient times. Thus, rats (Rattus norvegicus) became good study models due to their short life cycle and docility. In the literature, the Hairless lineage counts as an animal with little maternal care, as it is described as an animal that produces less milk. In addition to the lack of fur, it ends up not warming the puppies as they should. However, in the vivarium of the Dois Irmãos State Park (PEDI) it was empirically noted that the rats, in addition to being more productive, also always weaned the entire litter in a healthy way. Therefore, the present work aimed to prove, through statistical analysis, whether this fact was true or not. A total of 78 rats were used, 60 of which had normal fur and 18 had the Hairless gene mutation. The animals were distributed in 26 polypropylene boxes that contained two females and one male. These were divided into three experimental groups, group 01 being at least a normal female and a normal male; group 02 two hairless females; group 03 normal females and the male Hairless. Data were obtained on the number of animals born, weaned, deaths, transferred, number of births and number of offspring per birth. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Analysis System Software (SAS®, version 9.3; SAS® Institute Inc., Cary, NC, USA). Tables 01 and 02 show that the results did not differ. With this, it can be seen that the Hairless rats of the PEDI are as productive as the non-mutant rats. However, several factors may have influenced the results, such as climate, luminosity and genetic interaction. Therefore, further studies are recommended to be carried out on site.
