The mandatory supervised internship report aims to present the activities carried out at the Agricultural Defense and Inspection Agency of Pernambuco (ADAGRO) and at the Small Animal Medical Clinic of the Pet Dream Veterinary Hospital, from March 2 to April 17, 2020 (total of 216 hours) and from August 20 to October 2, 2020 (204 hours), respectively, adding the 420 hours required by the discipline. In this first period, the internship was aimed at monitoring inspections in establishments that sell Products of Animal Origin, in the sense of enforcing normative requirements that aim at food quality and safety, analysis of standards and construction sketches and reforms for adaptation establishments to the standard. In the second stage, during an internship at the Veterinary Hospital Pet Dream, the routine of the medical clinic and the emergence of small animals was monitored in 170 canine and 58 feline visits. The internship broadened the view regarding the veterinarian's role and added more experiences in the medical field of small animals, making it possible to corroborate some theoretical knowledge acquired during graduation, which is fundamental for the beginning of professional life. In addition, the report is also intended to report a case of feline polyarthritis with FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). It is a rescued, mixed breed cat, 5 kg, male, not neutered, with access to the street, initial complaint of pain, lameness of the left chest member, fever and, with approximately one month, prostration, hyperthermia, anorexia, weight loss, dehydration, severe pain, temperature increase and edema in the left thoracic limb, left pelvic limb and spine joints. The blood count showed leukocytosis, lymphopenia and neutrophilia, with a shift to the left, and, the biochemical, an increase in gammaglutamyltransferase. Radiography showed a slight increase in soft tissue opacity in the region of the left humerus, the main differential (inflammation). In the immunochromatographic test, anti-FIV antibody was detected. The animal did fluid therapy. The established treatment was clindamycin, meloxican, tramadol, interferon alfa-2a and supplement, orally. In eight days, the blood count was within normal standards and the animal walked. After a few more days, the biochemist normalized, the cat stopped limping completely and was discharged under supervision. The rapid response to conservative therapy and the clinical improvement of the animal suggest that the condition of polyarthritis may have been related to infection with IVF.

The aim of this report was to describe the experience during the ESO period and to report the clinical case of septic arthritis in a young female Quarter Horse breed. The Compulsory Supervised Internship (CSI) is a curricular component of the Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, whose purpose is to provide a professional experience for students to gain real experience and to acquire knowledge theoretical-practical. The CSI was carried out at the “CITEquin - Hospital de Cavalos de Paudalho”, in the equine medical and surgical clinic area, from August 17, 2020 to October 30, 2020, totaling 420 hours. CITEquin is a private hospital that mainly serves equines with 24-hour services and hospitalization. The routine started at 07:00, in which the clinical examination and medication of the hospitalized animals was carried out, each patient had a respective record in which all relevant information is noted. It was followed up 39 cases during the CSI, of which this report highlighted septic arthritis in the left femorotibiapatelar joint in a Quarter Horse female foal. The multimodal treatment was adopted using local and systemic antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, joint lavage and local infiltration. They were important for the cure. The Meropeném medicine had an effective response at the end treatment. The CSI´s experience was important for the consolidation of theoretical knowledge acquired throughout the course and during the training period, in addition to enabling the routine experience of a veterinarian at a Horse Hospital and who also performs field visits.

Calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease (CPPD) is a type of crystalline arthritis characterized by the presence of calcified plates reflecting in direction to the articular surface, indentations in the radiocarpals joint surfaces, or calcified concretions over the articular surface. The CPPD can be classified as primary or secondary, depending if there is a relation or not with a pre-existing disease. CPPD has been well documented in mammals of the Brazilian Megafauna of the final Pleistocene, especially in gliptodonts and giant terrestrial sloths. The objective of this work is to present new diagnostics of the CPPD in extinct mammals of the Brazilian Megafauna in the final Pleistocene. The analysed material belongs to the collection of palaeontology of the Rural Federal University of Pernambuco which have been collected in a tank deposit, located in Serra Negra, city of Caruaru, Pernambuco (8°6.8225'S 36°6.0349'W), and include: A calcaneus (UFRPE - 4981) a rib (UFRPE - 5547) and a scapula fragment (UFRPE - 4982) of Eremotherium laurillardi (Xenarthra, Folivora) and the distal portion of a Toxodon sp. Fibula (Notoungulata) (UFRPE - 4990). Each specimen has been macroscopically examined and the presented diagnosis followed as specific literature. The Calcaneus (UFRPE - 4981) presents bone projection at the shallow end of the sustainable facet, near to the tendon insertion area. The rib (UFRPE - 5547) presents bone projection in the border of the chapter surface. The scapula fragment (UFRPE - 4982) presents bone projections next to the center of the articulation, in the glenoid cavity and are associated to minor bone erosions. In the fibula (UFRPE - 4990), it is possible to observe calcium deposition associated to the CPPD onto articular surface of the distal edge, there are also minor bone erosions, of a few millimetres, that can be related to other diseases (e.g. spondyloarthropathy). The presence of those calcified plates over articulations is an indicative of the CPPD – essentially gliptodontes and terrestrial sloths – are predominantly individuals that have great body mass and are senile. There diagnostic of CPPD in eight diferent localities, from Northest of Brazil.
