This study presents the application of the Monte Carlo integration technique for calculating areas of plane figures, aiming to enhance Mathematics education in high school. The methodology includes a practical and experimental approach, involving computational simulations using R software and engaging classroom activities, such as the use of tangible materials to estimate areas of geometric shapes. The theoretical framework encompasses concepts from geometry, probability, and statistics, providing a solid foundation for the method’s application. The results indicated that the use of the Monte Carlo technique improved students’ understanding of mathematical concepts and increased their interest in the subject. Additionally, it was observed that increasing the number of random samples enhances the precision of the estimates, validating the method’s effectiveness. It is concluded that integrating interactive practices and computational tools into teaching enables more meaningful and contextualised learning, making it a valuable strategy for various educational levels.

Masculine stigma, low family encouragement, and lack of representation are the main factors that justify the underrepresentation of women in the technology field. Therefore, this paper aims to highlight the current female landscape in Information Technology (IT) higher education courses in Brazil. To achieve this purpose, a literature review and analysis of microdata from the Higher Education Census from 2013 to 2022, provided by the National Institute for Educational Studies and Research An´ısio Teixeira (INEP), were conducted. The analysis shows significantly low female representation in higher education technology courses over the analyzed period - female enrollments do not exceed 17%, the completion rate averages 15%, and the Southeast region has the highest number of female representatives in IT courses, with São Paulo standing out. However, a trend of increase can be observed in the last two years.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to many unforeseen situations, among which we can highlight those related to the advancement of information and communication technologies, such as, for example, the increase in the use of electronic commerce and the implementation of teaching models inspired by the hybrid education, but many difficult and bad situations for the population, highlighting the Brazilian, reality in question. Still in this perspective, there is a massive amount of information disseminated at all times about the pandemic, including in the form of statistical data. However, it is of paramount importance that these data are understood by the population, and then concerns about Statistical Literacy (LE) in schools emerge assist in the formation of citizens. Thus, this research aims to identify activities that can be developed with the statistical data of the pandemic of the new coronavirus, aiming at Statistical Literacy for students of Basic Education, based on the discussions of Gal (2002). Therefore, it was necessary to frame the research as qualitative and as a case study to analyze the data of the pandemic in Brazil, additionally, research was carried out on the official websites of the Ministry of Health to extract the data necessary for analysis. As a result, it was possible to identify mathematical subjects, more specifically in elementary school, final years 9th year, which can be incorporated together with statistical data, enabling the development of activities in order to provide Statistical Literacy. Therefore, the research brings the visibility of the importance of the LE for the formation of the citizen, with activities that can be applied in the 9th year and can improve the statistical understanding of the students, resulting in beneficial social impacts for society.

Electricity is one of the primary sources of energy used by humanity. Growing concern for the preservation of the environment has stimulated the search for renewable energy sources capable of reducing impacts on nature. Population growth and the increasingly frequent use of electronic devices in almost all daily activities demand the most efficient use of electricity. Due to these challenges, it is essential to carry out planning to dimen-sion the structure of generation and transmission of electric energy. One of the tools capable of assisting in this sizing is the demand forecasting. Another major challenge in this area lies in the realization of these forecasts in large data scenarios (Big Data). This work aims to evaluate the performance of two prediction methods, ARIMA andHolt-Winters, using temporal series applied to a large volume of data. The database was provided by the DEBS 2014 Grand Challenge event, which contains electricity consumption data for a large number of households for one month. For the application of the prediction methods, we used libraries in the R language. In order to process data, the Apache Spark framework was used in conjunction with the R language to parallelize the data reading processing and filtering parameters. The treated data were convertedin to time series with hourly consumption values, throughout the month comprised by theoriginal database. Predictions were made for the region of the households as a who leand each residence individually. The results showed an advantage of ARIMA versusHolt-Winters in the scenario used, using the RMSE metric as a comparative basis of performance. However, based on similar experiments found in the literature, with due proportions, both RMSE values are within an acceptable range.
