The ESO (Mandatory Supervised Internship) report aims to describe the activities experienced during the internship period from April 1, 2024, to June 14, 2024. The ESO lasted for 420 hours and was conducted at CORe (Centro Oncológico do Recife) as well as at the Hospital Veterinario do Recife. Throughout the internship period, activities related to the surgical clinic took place, allowing for the consolidation of knowledge acquired during the college degree, including performing approximately 142 surgical procedures. Furthermore, this report will delve deeper into the case of a cat with squamous cell carcinoma and the techniques applied in the patient's treatment.

Uso da eletroquimioterapia como adjuvante a excisão de mastocitoma pela técnica de cirurgia reconstrutiva: relato de caso
(2022-10-07) Hounkonnou, Soke Gninlome Cedril; Evêncio Neto, Joaquim; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2816111822261115; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3450887118923788
Mast cells are connective tissue cells that play a fundamental role in the immune system, with the main site being the subcutaneous tissue and the mucosa. They are considered the only hematopoietic cells to spend most of their life in tissues. Mastocytoma is one of the most common cutaneous neoplasms in dogs, representing 11 to 27% of malignant neoformations in the species. It is characterized by abnormal and overgrowth of mast cells. The diagnosis of mast cell tumor is based on cytological and histopathological examinations. The treatment of choice consists of surgical removal of the neoplasm, however, depending on the case, other treatments can be used as an adjuvant to surgery. The objective of this monograph is to report the case of mast cell tumor in an 8-year-old canine patient treated during my internship at the veterinary hospital of UFRPE, with a history of lameness and the presence of neoformation in the lateral region of the thigh of the left hind limb. The diagnosis was established by performing fine needle aspiration cytology and the treatment consisted of surgical excision associated with electrochemotherapy as an adjuvant therapy.

The first chapter of this work presents the main activities developed and the case-by-case assessment of the animal afflictions during the Mandatory Supervised Internship (MSI), from the veterinary medicine course, area of Small Animals Medical Clinical Practice, at Pet Dream Veterinarian Hospital. The MSI took place from June 27 to September 8, 2022, with a total workload of 420 hours. Among the activities, we highlight the clinical care follow-ups and the feline and canine urgencies and emergencies. In the second chapter, the case report was described as “Use of electrochemotherapy in the treatment of feline plasmacytic pododermatities.” In the MSI, it was possible to practice the contents discussed and shared throughout the course of veterinary medicine at UFRPE and to undergo daily experiences in the care and respect of the animals treated, as well as their tutors.

Uso da eletroquimioterapia no melanoma oral em cão - Relato de caso
(2022-06-01) Santos, Karolline Gomes da Rocha; Silva, Elayne Cristine Soares da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2064359935012193
This report is divided into two chapters. The first describes the activities followed during the Mandatory Supervised Internship, from February 14, 2022 to May 5, 2022, at the Caminho dos Bichos veterinary clinic, located in Espinheiro, in the city of Recife/PE. The second chapter aimed to report the case of a dog with oral melanoma that was treated during the aforementioned internship period and treated with electrochemotherapy associated with surgery. Oral melanoma is one of the most incident and aggressive types, and can cause metastases. Surgical treatment is the most used, and there is often difficulty in establishing safety surgical margins without loss of function and acceptance of the result, from an aesthetic point of view, by tutors. Electrochemotherapy (EQT) can be chosen as a single treatment or complementary to surgery, in cases when there is no possibility of removing the tumor with safety margins or when the tutor does not agree with the surgical treatment. EQT enhances chemotherapy by electroporation of the cytoplasmic membrane through electrical pulses, allowing the death of cancer cells without reaching normal cells, that is, healthy cells, which demonstrates an even greater safety in the treatment. In the case reported, the patient underwent surgery associated with EQT, demonstrating improved quality of life, mainly because it is an elderly dog with compromised surgical margins.
