The presentation of the report to obtain the partial mark and prerequisite for conclusion of the course, as well as it is also important to report the experiences acquired during this final stretch, both in veterinary ophthalmology clinic and in veterinary ophthalmic surgeries. This ESO was carried out at the Veterinary Hospital of UFRPE campus Recife, being in agreement with the pedagogical proposal of the course. This course completion work includes a report of the activities carried out during the veterinary ophthalmology training and a case report of the use of conjunctival cytology to aid in the diagnosis of canine leishmaniasis. Leishmaniasis is a disease of great importance for public health and therefore was addressed as a case report of this ESO. Conjunctival cytology is a non-invasive rapid diagnostic method that can be performed to aid in the diagnosis of systemic diseases affecting the eye and its attachments. It is important for the clinician to take a differential approach to cases of leishmaniasis that appear to the clinic. We conclude that the observation of conjunctival cytology will help in the elucidation of cases even when there are not all clinical signs of the disease. Helping to know the types of inflammatory cells and the involved microorganisms allowing to make a diagnosis and a more correct treatment.
