The Mandatory Supervised Internship (ESO) is an eleventh period discipline, necessary for the conclusion of the graduation course in Veterinary Medicine at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco and corresponds to a period in which the student has the opportunity to experience the routine of the area that he wants to work on. The present work is divided into two chapters with the objective of describing the activities carried out at the ESO in Veterinary Anesthesiology, which took place from May 25 to July 31 of 2023, at the Veterinary Hospital of UFRPE and at the Veterinary Hospital Harmonia Unit Casa Forte, under the supervision of veterinarians Romulo Nunes and Hugo Viana, respectively, and to report a case of anesthesia for mastectomy in a bitch, where blockade of the stratus plane associated with the transversus abdominis was used, with 2% lidocaine and 0.5 bupivacaine %, both guided by ultrasound. Acepromazine, propofol, isoflurane were used, in addition to continuous infusion of lidocaine and ketamine as an anesthetic protocol. In the trans and postoperative periods, the animal studied did not show signs of pain or discomfort, inferring good blockade analgesia.

The mandatory supervised internship (ESO) is a required subject of the curricular matrix of the veterinary medicine course at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, with a total workload of 420 hours. The student has the opportunity to choose one or more areas to be experienced during this period, being able to closely monitor and assist in various procedures, being supervised by a professional in the chosen area. The ESO took place from February 14 to May 5, 2022 at Animalis – Surgery and Veterinary Clinic, in the area of anesthesiology, totaling 420 hours. This report describes the activities carried out in veterinary anesthesiology and describes a report on the use of dexamethasone in the tumescence technique for mastectomy in a canine.

Relatório do estágio supervisionado obrigatório (ESO), relato de caso: combinação do bloqueio do plano transverso abdominal e do bloqueio do plano eretor da espinha em cadela submetida à mastectomia unilateral

The Mandatory Supervised Internship is a subject in the curriculum of the Veterinary Medicine Bachelor’s course in the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco. The practical activities developed in the Veterinary Anesthesiology area corresponded to a total workload of 420 hours, held at two grantors: Veterinary Hospital Pet Dream – Boa Viagem Unit, in Recife, Pernambuco, and Veterinary Hospital FMVZ – UNESP, in Rubião Junior’s district, in Botucatu, São Paulo. Among the anesthesics procedures supervised, stands out the use of transversus abdominis plane block and the erector spinae plane block, performed in a female dog submitted to total unilateral mastectomy. This report has as its goal to describe the activities developed during the internship period, highlighting the graduating student’s need to acquire practical knowledges before entering the professional life, and to outline the importance of using local anesthesics blocks as a veterinary routine for pain treatment in intra and post-operative.

Bloqueio dos ramos ventrais das raízes nervosas espinhais toracolombares com associação de Ropivacaína e Hialuronidase em cadela submetida à mastectomia e ovariohisterectomia

As a way of deepening the veterinarian's knowledge, the Mandatory Supervised Internship (ESO) is offered in the eleventh period as a means of interaction and experience for the student with the routine and the most common casuistry of the professional in action and relating to what was learned during the subsequent five year course. This course completion work includes a supervised internship report, conducted at the Animalis Clinic - Surgery and Veterinary Clinic (Recife, PE) and a case report of a procedure performed at the site, both focusing on Veterinary Anesthesiology. The ESO comprised the period from March 12 to May 27, 2019, totaling 420 hours in which 39 patients were attended to perform anesthetic procedures. Among the activities described are the results of several important anesthetic topics, such as the most frequently attended systems or specialties, the most commonly used blockages and pharmacological associations, the most used drugs for pre-anesthetic medication (MPA) protocols, among others. In the selected report, whose title is: "Blockage of the ventral branches of thoracolumbar spinal nerve roots with association of Ropivacaine and Hyaluronidase in a dog submitted to mastectomy and ovariohysterectomy", a Maltese dog was admitted for a right unilateral mastectomy and ovariohysterectomy. The anesthetic protocol selected was the blockade of the innervation of the transverse abdominal plane without the use of ultrasound, associating hyaluronidase with ropivacaine so that the drug obtained a greater reach and raised the potency of the local anesthetic in the tissues. The selected protocol was effective and shows that the blockade of the region can be performed with the drugs listed without guided ultrasonography.
