Pernambuco has a privileged hydrography made up of seas, rivers, lakes that cut across the entire state. Knowing how to move in an autonomous and safe way in a liquid environment is, in addition to a right, with regard to the social function of the Physical Education curriculum component, a skill that can save lives. Swimming is presented as a corporal practice located within individual sports and is treated as a Physical Education content. This study aims to analyze if high school students from state public schools in Pernambuco have access to swimming, whether in a school environment or for leisure, and also identify if factors such as regions of the state and infrastructure interfere in the access to the swimming practice. The methodology used was a secondary analysis of the research project Practice of Physical Activities and Health Risk Behaviors in High School Students in Pernambuco - Temporal Trend Study (2016) database that covered the entire state of Pernambuco, interviewing students from 14 to 19 years old enrolled in the state school system, with the aim to analyze risky behavior among adolescents. The hypothesis was that the students in the state Education system had little access to swimming, and, as a result, the survey found out that only 2.3% of Pernambuco students reported swimming as a preferred activity. The conclusion was that swimming is pretermit due to the lack of specific structure for its performance.
