Seed banks provide farmers with strategies for seed maintenance and their diversity. The objective of this work was to know the history of the Community Seeds Bank (BSC) of the Cabaceiras Site based on the perception of the farmers and other subjects involved and to seek strategies to strengthen it in order to enable the actions of those involved and the technical assistance and rural extension to strengthen it. The research was carried out from May to August 2018. We use participatory methodologies to collect data, such as workshops, semi-structured interviews, facilitating the approach to action research and qualitative analysis. The workshops were planned, assembled and implemented according to the methodology of Participatory Rural Diagnosis (DRP). The interviewees were farmers and managers belonging to the community seed bank, members of social organizations, representatives of ATER institutions and municipal management. With this work it was possible to make a survey about the community's perception about the concept, potentiality and fragility of the community seed bank, seeking to contribute to the development and actions of rural extension to the community and the seed bank. In addition to knowing, systematizing and creating solutions to maintain the seed bank of the Cabaceiras Site and other active seed banks, as these are shown as alternatives for maintaining genetic diversity, autonomy and development for the community and the rural environment.
