This study aimed to address the production, consumption and nutritional characteristics of buffalo meat. The history of buffalo farming, the introduction and dissemination of buffaloes in the Americas was addressed, with a focus on Brazil, as well as talking about its production in the northeast region and in the state of Pernambuco. The meat production scenario and its obstacles, consumption and strategies to leverage its productivity were presented. Because the qualities of buffalo meat are undeniable, the product shows superior quality when compared to similar species, however, the consumption of meat is still not so widespread, since there is a stigma related to meat, where it is seen by many as a inferior quality product. So, using marketing strategies to promote its nutritional characteristics is an alternative that can boost the search for the product and, therefore, its production.

This present literature review sought to highlight the history of the buffalo, during its introduction and subsequent settlement in all regions of the world, in addition to emphasizing some important characteristics of the buffalo species, characteristics that differentiate them from other species, such as their rusticity, docility and high adaptive capacity to the diverse adverse environments of Brazil and the world. Even with the attributes that the buffalo has, it is still undervalued and unknown by much of society. Undervalued by the producer market, which sells much of the meat of this animal as being of the bovine species and undervalued and unknown by many people who do not even know or have consumed any product from them and hear and spread false comments about this species. From this, arose the desire to approach this topic, seeking to add reliable information to make the reader have more knowledge and end his disapproval of the species.

Cuniculture is the branch of Zootechnics that aims the rational and economical breeding of rabbits. It can be the production of meat, skin/fur. Lack of information regarding market, behavior, and public perceptions is one of the difficulties for planning livestock in terms of the scale of production and product characteristics necessary to meet demand. The objective of this work was to evaluate the perception of residents of the metropolitan region of Recife about the creation of rabbits. The online survey was carried out through the surveyheart application, through questionnaires applied to 316 people, chosen at random. The questionnaire was designed with 13 questions addressing the role of rabbits and pet mini/dwarf rabbits. The collected data were analyzed with the support of microsoft excel. The results indicated that (61.4%) of the interviewees have little or no knowledge about the benefits of rabbits production and (25%) about the dwarf/mini type rabbit. Almost half of the respondents (50.09%) showed interest in the breeding of rabbits, whether of common breed or mini/dwarf, but They said that it is difficult to find places of sale, so they end up preferring other kinds os pets, with easier marketplaces. It is notable the need to disseminate information both on the good qualities of rabbits and their products supplied. This would encourage production and, consequently, increase the market, thus offering interested parties a new opportunity for trade and the generation of quick profits possible for this type of production.

The dissemination of numerous unfounded information about meat consumption has led some people to erroneously claim that this activity is the main villain of global warming and scarcity of water resources, the increase in cardiovascular and associated diseases, in addition to mistreatment of production animals. Adopting veganism has been an alternative for those who says that want to stop the destruction of the environment, reduce the exploitation of animals and improve their quality of life. However, many of the arguments used by supporters of this lifestyle are unfounded and without scientific evidence. Today, sustainable livestock farming is already a reality seen on many farms and most of the meat sold in large urban centers comes from slaughterhouses that meet animal and environmental welfare standards; research shows that the consumption of animal proteins is essential for human nutrition and the diseases associated with consumption are related to the quality of the meat and the way it is prepared. Therefore, we will start this study by bringing an overview of Brazilian livestock and how it has developed over the years, then points will be presented that show the importance of meat consumption from the first homids to the present day and the main deficiencies caused by animal protein-restricted diets. Subsequently, the most talked about points in relation to the production of animal proteins will be explained, such as: animal welfare, animal husbandry and the environment as well as the use of hormones and antibiotics in production. With a scientific basis, this work seeks to show the consumer that it is possible to eat meat in a healthy way, respecting animals and the environment.

The objective was to evaluate the partial replacement of the pineapple cultural residue silage (SRCAB) by forage palm (0; 29.2; 58.4 and 87.6%), in addition to a control diet with sorghum silage as exclusive roughage, diet for sheep on consumption, apparent digestibility, ingestive behavior. Five crossbred male sheep with an average body weight of 40 kg were used, distributed in a 5 x 5 Latin square, with five animals, five treatments and five experimental periods. The consumption of DM and MO were higher for the levels: 0; 29.2; 58.4; 87.6% substitution in relation to the control diet. Regarding the consumption of CP, at the replacement levels 0, 29.2 and 58.4% it was higher than the control. There was less consumption of NDF for the levels 58.4 and 87.6% in relation to the control diet, for the other levels the consumption was similar. For all substitution levels, the consumption of CNF was higher, compared to the control diet. The consumption of MS, MO, PB, FDN, CNF and NDT decreased linearly due to the replacement of SRCAB by forage palm. The digestibility of DM in relation to the control diet showed to be higher in all levels of substitution by palm, however, in relation to the digestibility of CP only in the substitution levels of 58.4 and 87.6% was higher than the control diet. As for the replacement levels, there was no change in the digestibility of nutrients. The feeding time was similar between all levels of substitution in relation to the control treatment, however the time spent with leisure was longer and the time of rumination less responses were observed, respectively; to the levels of 29.2; 58.4 and 87.6% of inclusion, respectively; due to the replacement of SRCAB by forage palm. SRCAB showed better nutritional value than the silage of the forage sorghum variety BRS Ponta Negra. The inclusion of forage palm to replace the silage of pineapple crop remains is not recommended, mainly because it reduces energy consumption.

The objective was to evaluate the economic viability of three sheep production objectives, differentiated by technological levels of exploration. Environmental and technical assumptions are assumed for the structuring of technological matrices. The Technological Matrix 1 considers a total of 176 animals, distributed in 100 hectares of native Caatinga pasture, with forage and mineral supplementation. For this system, nutritional, sanitary and reproductive management with more extensive characteristics is considered. For Technological Matrix 2, the initial module of 315 animals is assumed, at a moderate technological level, distributed in native Caatinga pasture enriched with Buffel grass (Cenchrus ciliaris) and rearing and finishing the lambs (as) on pasture in this cultivar. The Technological Matrix 3 has an initial herd of 598 animals, with lambs (as) finished in a confinement system, and allocation of the other categories of animals in Buffel grass pasture (Cenchrus ciliaris), considering more desirable zootechnical indices. The operational costs of technological matrices 1, 2 and 3 were calculated for the analysis of performance measures in determining a possible stable system. The technological matrix 1 obtained values of R$ 19.666,25, R$ 36.401,24 and R$ 37.654,79 for Effective Operating Cost (COE), Total Operating Cost (TOC) and Total Production Cost (CTP). In technological matrix 2, it found values of R$ 44.947,75 for COE, R$ 74.548,19 for COT and R$ 77.078,39 for CTP. In technological system 3, it obtained values of R$ 118.511,00 (COE), R$ 172.482,64 (COT) and R$ 176.152,84 (CTP). The values of fixed assets of the production systems were calculated, based on the cost of machinery and equipment, improvements and animals, estimating R$ 50.785,00 for technological matrix 1, R$ 151.385,00 of fixed assets for technological matrix 2 and R$ 250.840.00 for the technological matrix 3. Through the calculations obtained from the Gross Revenue (RB), Gross Margin (MB), Net Margin (ML), profitability and cost benefit ratio (BC), return evaluation values were observed and profitability in the production costs of technological matrix 2, representing R$ 170.563,39 for RB, R$ 52.052,39 for MB, R$ 1.919,25 for ML, R$ -5.589,45 for profitability and 0,97 for the index BC.
