This work aimed to synthesize sustainable practices in an industrial-scale poultry farm, Santa Isabel Agropecuária Ltda., and analyze the use of antibiotics and their alternatives in Brazilian poultry farming. The Mandatory Supervised Internship (ESO), carried out as part of the requirement to obtain the Degree in Veterinary Medicine. Alternative practices were sought to the use of Antibiotics as Growth Promoters (APC), with the aim of contributing to public health and combating bacterial resistance. The methodology involved observing the daily routine of a poultry farm that produces eggs without the need for APCs. And the comprehensive literature was reviewed, which included the analysis of scientific publications in databases and specialized literature between the years 2013 and 2024. The results indicated the effectiveness and need for alternative methods to APCs for the sustainability of the sector and animal health and human, highlighting the importance of policies for the responsible use of antibiotics in poultry production.

The aim of this report was to describe the experience during the ESO period and to report the clinical case of septic arthritis in a young female Quarter Horse breed. The Compulsory Supervised Internship (CSI) is a curricular component of the Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, whose purpose is to provide a professional experience for students to gain real experience and to acquire knowledge theoretical-practical. The CSI was carried out at the “CITEquin - Hospital de Cavalos de Paudalho”, in the equine medical and surgical clinic area, from August 17, 2020 to October 30, 2020, totaling 420 hours. CITEquin is a private hospital that mainly serves equines with 24-hour services and hospitalization. The routine started at 07:00, in which the clinical examination and medication of the hospitalized animals was carried out, each patient had a respective record in which all relevant information is noted. It was followed up 39 cases during the CSI, of which this report highlighted septic arthritis in the left femorotibiapatelar joint in a Quarter Horse female foal. The multimodal treatment was adopted using local and systemic antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, joint lavage and local infiltration. They were important for the cure. The Meropeném medicine had an effective response at the end treatment. The CSI´s experience was important for the consolidation of theoretical knowledge acquired throughout the course and during the training period, in addition to enabling the routine experience of a veterinarian at a Horse Hospital and who also performs field visits.
