The Shales of the Ipubi and Romualdo formations of the Santana da Bacia do Araripe Group contain fossil records that may clarify still poorly established questions about the depositional environments that originated these rocks. Based on the material deposited in the paleontology collection of the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, in the Department of Biology, we sought to identify fossils preserved in these shales, and from this to make paleoenvironmental and paleoecological inferences. It was possible to identify 25 specimens of Dastilbe crandalli, 2 Vinctifer sp., 16 fragments of fish and coprolites from the Ipubi Formation. For the Romualdo Formation 240 shrimp were reported, of which 14 were identified as Araripenaeus and 44 as Paleomattea, in addition to a Dastilbe and two megalopas. From the analysis of these results, we sought to make paleoecological inferences.
