Item Uso da terapia com ondas de choque e do laser de alta potência no tratamento de entesopatia do ligamento suspensor do boleto e sesamoidite proximal em equino da raça Puro Sangue Inglês - Relato de caso(2021-07-13) Dias, Tatiana Delecave; Cavalcanti, Grazielle Anahy de Sousa Aleixo; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3165940085830406; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6186420934510214The Compulsory Supervised Internship (CSI) is carried out in the 11º semester as a requirement to complete the Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine. This report was developed at the Luiza Leão Medicina Equina Veterinary Clinic (LLVET), under supervision of Dr. Luiza Maria Tenório Leão, in the equine clinical and orthopedic department, and under the guidance of Dr. Grazielle Anahy de Sousa Aleixo, totaling a workload of 420 hours. This report aims to explain the activities carried out during the internship, just like the procedures and clinical cases accompanied, emphasizing orthopedics clinical cases, which had high prevalence during the internship. In addition, this report aims to report a case of a 12-year-old male show jumping thoroughbred horse, with history of lameness in the right forelimb. During the orthopedic clinical examination, it was observed a discreet edema and pain on palpation in the insertion of the lateral branch of the suspensory ligament (SL). It was carried out radiography and ultrasonography exams, confirming the diagnosis of enthesopathy of the lateral branch of the SL and proximal sesamoiditis associated. Clinical treatment consisted of administration of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), cryotherapy, local massage, rest, use of a proper orthopedic horseshoe and trimming, and extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) and class IV laser. Results were satisfactory, once the patient recovered well from lesions and is gradually returning to athletic activities at the present time. Internship was of great value to prepare the student for labor market in the veterinary medicine field, making possible to improve theoretical and practical knowledge acquired during graduation, aside from enable being in touch with renowned professionals, mainly in the equine orthopedic field.
