Throughout the work, a literature review was performed on the anatomy of the spine and spinal cord, as well as the pathophysiology of intervertebral disc herniation. Considered a routine procedure in veterinary clinics, treatments for this type of disease can follow two lines of treatment, conservative and surgical. With the advancement of studies in the field of alternative medicine, it has been noted the benefits that acupuncture has shown in the treatment of intervertebral disorders. A case study was then conducted in which topics were provided that provide information and illustrate the daily life of the veterinarian.Item Relatório do Estágio Supervisionado Obrigatório (ESO): Descrição de atividades realizadas em Clinica Médica de Pequenos Animais: poliartrite em cão srd com leishmaniose visceral – relato de caso(2019-12-13) Fonsêca, Caroline Santos da; Lima, Evilda Rodrigues de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8218445325520629This report aimed to describe the activities carried out at the UFRPE HOVET, campus SEDERecife - PE, in the areas of Medical Clinic, under the supervision of veterinarians, Dr. Maria Evilda Rodrigues de Lima, Dr. Francine Maria de França Silva and Dr. Alexandre Cruz Dantas, as well as follow up on cases attended and experienced at this location. The activities were carried out during the period from August 12, 2019 to December 06, 2019, totaling 420 hours of internship during which, in the afternoon, clinical cases that were previously scheduled were followed up. The data covered in this report were obtained through clinical records, anamnesis, physical and clinical examination of the animals, as well as through complementary examinations performed during the consultation procedure. The case report chosen was a 11 month old male dog of undefined breed, with a history of hind limb paralysis and pain in all joints. She underwent several tests, including blood count, X-ray, ultrasound and parasitological bone marrow, where she was diagnosed with Leishmaniasis. The symptom of polyarthritis is a rare symptom and therefore difficult to diagnose. The animal has been treated for Leishmaniasis - specific medications, as well as being submitted to acupuncture sections. So far it has responded satisfactorily, however the animal still feels pain and it is still necessary sections of physiotherapy. Based on the above, it can be concluded that ESO's activities were extremely important to understand the operation of the hospital, to know its casuistry and to put into practice the knowledge acquired during the ESO.
