Resumo

Passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims.) is a dicot of great socioeconomic importance in Brazil and the largest producer and consumer of passion fruit in the world. The crop is widely explored in the Northeast, where it generates significant income, especially for small and medium-sized fruit growers, especially family farmers. Among the factors responsible for the success of passion fruit crops is the quality seedling, especially with the use of adequate substrate. The properties presented by the substrates are variable, and the type of substrate affects the development and root system of the plant, as well as the supply of nutrients, consequently the emergence and development of the seedling. There are few researches regarding the appropriate substrate to be used in the production of passion fruit seedlings in the Northeast region, mainly works in this direction can help the producers of family agriculture in this region. The objective of this work is to evaluate different substrates in the development of passion fruit seedlings BRS Rubi do Cerrado in the Sertão of Pernambuco. The research was carried out under greenhouse conditions with 50% shading at the Serra Talhada Academic Unit of the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, in the municipality of Serra Talhada, PE. The experimental design adopted was completely randomized, with four treatments (substrates: washed sand, fine-grained vermiculite, coarse-grained vermiculite and coconut fiber), five replications, using 10 plants per plot. The data obtained at 98 days after sowing were submitted to analysis of variance and the means were compared by Tukey's test, at a 5% probability level. The coconut fiber substrate provided better development of the shoot and root system of the passion fruit seedlings BRS Rubi do Cerrado, with greater stem diameter and dry mass, greater fresh and dry mass of the leaves, greater dry and fresh mass of the root, providing obtaining better quality seedlings, with a higher Dickson quality index.
