Chagas disease is a neglected disease, related to poor living conditions of those infected. It is endemic to Latin America, reaching about 6 to7million people. One of the main forms of transmission is the vector, from triatomine insects infectedwith the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi. The objective of this study was to record the distribution of triatomine species to the home environment between 2012 to 2017, in the VIII Health Region (Petrolina), in Pernambuco, In addition, it identifies a rate ofinfection by flagellates morphologically similar to a T. cruziin captured triatomines. The VIII GERES, located in Petrolina, comprises 7 municipalities in the Region of the Sertão de São Francisco: Afrânio, Cabrobó, Dormentes, Lagoa Grande, Orocó, Petrolina and Santa Maria da Boa Vista. A total of 9.738specimensof triatomines belonging to 6species: Triatoma brasiliensis(8.251), T. pseudomaculata(1.323), Panstrongylus lutzi(100), T. sordida(56), P. megistus(7) andR. neglectus(1). Petrolina was the municipality with the most specimens captured (3.421) and Dormentes presented the highest rate of triatomines infected with flagellates morphologically similar to T. cruzi(3.3%). The species with the highest rate of infection by flagellates morphologically similar to T. cruziwas P. lutzi(38%).Studies of the distribution of triatomine species and infection rate by flagellates morphologically similar to T. cruzishould be carried out in municipalities of other health regions of Pernambuco State Sertão, in order to provide information essential for the control of this important disease .
