In veterinary medicine there are reports of the tumor in several organs besides the bladder, among them: uterus, vagina, heart, stomach, descending colon, esophagus and nasal cavity. As in the various neoplasias that reach the lower urinary tract, the affected animals develop as hematuria, polaciuria, strangury or urinary incontinence as the main clinical signs. In some cases, bladder palpation can be perceived mass or thickening if the neoplasm is advanced enough, but the definitive diagnosis is achieved by jointly evaluating the clinical findings associated with complementary imaging tests (x-ray and ultrasound) and histopathological examination of a fragment of the tumor, which can be obtained through exploratory laparotomy or during tumor mass excision. The main differential diagnosis of leiomyoma is its malignant and metastatizing form: leiomyosarcoma. The most commonly used treatment is surgical removal, which in the vast majority of cases leads to a good prognosis depending on the location of the tumor in the organ. The greatest complications are recorded when there is impairment of the bladder trigone. The objective of the present study is to report a case of leiomyoma in the urinary vesicle of an 11-year-old Dachshund bitch.Item Enucleação em felino doméstico (Felis catus): relato de caso(2019-12-09) Silva, Carlos Vieira da; Silva Neto, Jairo de Macêdo Lins e; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8755976853652248Item Prolapso peniano em Jabuti-piranga (Chelonoidis carbonaria) com resolução cirúrgica: relato de caso(2019-07-05) Telesca, Patricia Bussamra; Vasconcelos, Ruben Horn; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3641527128333770; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6159659667666462Currently, exotic animals are popular pets that present different aspects in comparison to dogs and cats, such as low cost and short time invested in their maintenance. Among the exotic species, one of the main options are tortoises, which are terrestrial reptiles that present a compact body, robust members and a rigid carapace. Taxonomy includes these animals within the Class Reptilia, Order Testudines, Suborder Cryptodyra. Most diseases that affect reptiles are related directly or indirectly to inadequate nutrition or environments. In addition, one of the main causes of penile prolapse in captive Testudines is secondary nutritional hyperparathyroidism, which occurs as a result of inadequate diet and maintenance. Moreover, one of the main predisposing factors is the unbalance of the calcium-phosphate ratio in feed. Penile prolapse may also occur as a consequence of other factors, such as trauma, forced separation during coitus, infections, inflammation, nervous damage, intestinal parasitism and cloacal impaction. Hence, this report aimed to describe a case of penile prolapse in 15-yearsold red-footed tortoise (Chelonoidis carbonaria) that was submitted to penectomy. In anamnesis, the owner reported that the animal was fed fruits and some vegetables. However, there was no inclusion of animal protein or dark-colored vegetables in the diet. Physical examination revealed muscle weakness with slow walk and carapace deformation with lesions in the plastron from scraping in the floor. In addition, the penis was exposed with lesions due to the friction with the ground and failed to be repositioned within the cloaca. Then, clinical treatment with correction of diet and calcium administration failed to correct the prolapse and surgery was scheduled. Volatile anesthesia was used and total penectomy was performed proximal to the devitalized tissue. One month later, considerable improvement was observed with good healing of the surgical site and prolapse was not longer observed. In conclusion, the procedure was adequate in curing the main condition. However, the animal still had a minor difficulty in walking, which suggests that alterations derived from the flawed diet were still uncorrected.Item Anestesia para procedimento odontológico em coelho doméstico (Oryctolagus cuniculus): relato de caso(2018-08-03) Rocha, Karen Barros da; Lorena, Sílvia Elaine Rodolfo de Sá; Menezes, Flávia Ferreira de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8659871145469177; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4757148486343231Rabbits were classified as rodents until 1912, when the Lagomorpha order was recognized, since the lagomorphs can be distinguish from the rodents by having a second rudimentary pair of upper incisor teeth (peg teeth). Brazil has the second largest pet market in the world, behind only the United States. In the UK and other countries, it is the third most common pet. Dental diseases constitute 60% of the clinical conditions of rodents and lagomorphs, requiring the intervention of veterinarians. Despite the tame temperament, rabbits are easily stressful animals, which requires greater care by the veterinarian with physical restraint. The animal's own physical examination and imaging and treatment procedures require not only physical but chemical restraint, and even general anesthesia. Despite this, lagomorph anesthesia is relatively simple, since these animals are sensitive to most of the known drugs, presenting a rapid dose-response, although few studies report and discuss anesthetic protocols in this species, mainly in Brazil. However, the greatest challenge encountered by veterinary anesthetists is still the orotracheal intubation, due to their anatomical peculiarities, such as oropharynx, tongue and long and narrow incisor teeth and limited mobility of the temporomandibular joint, reasons for which several techniques have been developed over the years to subserve the procedure. Therefore, the aim of this study is to present a case report in which it was necessary to anesthetize a 6-year-old male pet rabbit with no defined breed to continue with overgrowth and malocclusion dental treatment, attended at the Veterinary Hospital UNESP-Botucatu Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science College.
