First, based on the annotated list of the Brazilian Committee of Ornithological Records (CBRO) (Pacheco et al, 2021), the Pernambuco Bird List (Farias, PEREIRA e SILVA, 2008) and the Preliminary Avifauna Survey in the municipality of Moreno–Pernambuco (DE PERNAMBUCO, 2003) and subsequently carried out a survey and field record of the birds that reside and visit the Engenho Jardim Municipal School, located within the conservation unit, then an action was carried out with an agenda on environmental education and scientific dissemination for the students who make up the school, as a way of returning the information collected and contributing to local education, in this process the Guide “Birds from my school: Guide to birds from the Engenho Jardim school” was created. The collection took place in March and April 2022 through observations and later carried out an educational action on April 29, 2022. The educational activity was aimed at about 150 elementary school students with classes from the first to the ninth grade, and instruments such as Banner, group dynamics and music composition were used, where there was a presentation of the local avifauna, exchange of knowledge and a lot of enthusiasm of students. The survey showed a total of 58 species, distributed in 16 orders and 30 families, all of which showed little concern. The guide was composed of contents presenting ornithology, bird classes, registered birds, legends and composed music, all information was passed using simple language, however serving any audience, from children to adults.Item Taxocenose de termitas (Blattodea: Isoptera) em áreas edificadas da Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco campus Recife(2021-12-09) Aragão, Patrícia Mayara da Silva; Couto, Alane Ayana Vieira de Oliveira; Oliveira, Marco Aurélio Paes de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9909174806823080; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0966439041863782; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3069842291688147The infraorder Isoptera (Blattodea) is represented by termites and has approximately 2,977 described species, 612 of which in the Neotropical region, and which are distributed in 107 genera. Termites of interest have a large destructive potential because they feed and destroy various structures present in buildings. They also have great potential as soil pests as they cause damage to many crops. This study aimed to survey the species that occur in the built-up areas of the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco campus Recife, the species that have economic importance and their damage caused to various materials, assess the potential as a pest of the species found, and collaborate with the entomological collection of the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco. The study area took place at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco campus Recife, where a collection took place in the built-up areas of four points that were named A, B, C, and D, respectively, in April 2021. The collections were acquired with the help of tweezers, brushes, and trays, and the termites were placed in bottles containing 70% alcohol for conservation. Subsequently, the material was identified in the laboratory with the help of stereoscope microscope and a dichotomous identification key, in addition to carrying out a comparison with specimens from the Entomological Collection of UFRPE. As a result, through the collections, it was possible to observe that points A, B, and C obtained the greatest diversity of termites associated with built-up areas. At all these points, a type of Nasutitermes corniger was present, being considered as having the highest frequency of occurrence and the greatest potential for pests, as it is responsible for a large part of the extensive damage observed. Nasutitermes sp. and Amitermes amifer were evaluated as having intermediate potential as a pest because, despite being infrequent, they can cause extensive damage without proper prevention and control. Cylindrotermes sapiranga, Microcerotermes strunckii, Neocapritermes opacus, and Heterotermes longiceps were examined with low potential as a pest, as they were not associated with considerable damage to the facilities where they were found. Furthermore, the frequency of distribution of these species was also considered low compared to others.Item Levantamento e monitoramento de mastofauna da Estação Ecológica de Tapacurá, Pernambuco, Brasil(2019-12-04) Ramos, Deborah Maria Soares; Montes, Martín Alejandro; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0349635170206363; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7769196041781031Current rates of biodiversity loss are being driven by several anthropogenic pressures that result in rapid population declines, a process known as defaunation. In megadiverse biomes such as the Atlantic Forest, defaunation is exacerbated due by deforestation and habitat fragmentation, and figure as a major threat to biodiversity conservation by promoting local extinction processes. In this context, the knowledge about the historical loss of mammals and its current situation in threatened areas of the Atlantic Forest biome is extremely important. This study aimed to perform a systematic review based on historical data and current fieldwork effort, and evaluate the conservation status of mammals at the Pernambuco Endemism Center (CEP) through the noninvasive method of camera trapping. The study was conducted at the Tapacurá Ecological Station, Protected Area (PA) located in the municipality of São Lourenço da Mata, Pernambuco State, with a total area of 776 hectares. Sixteen sample stations with a spacing of about 350 meters were used to ensure the independence of the records, to cover the largest fragment of the UC with an area of 428 hectares. The total sampling effort was 13,801 hours, and eleven species of native mammals were identified: Dasyprocta prymnolopha, Cuniculus paca, Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris, Sylvilagus brasiliensis, Leopardus pardalis, Leopardus tigrinus, Nasua nasua, Cerdocyon thous, Galictis vittata, Callithrix jacchus, Bradypus variegatus, beyond the introduced Canis lupus familiaris and Felis catus. The activity pattern of some species was identified: Dasyprocta prymnolopha (diurnal), Cuniculus paca (nocturnal), Nasua nasua (diurnal), Canis lupus familiaris (diurnal). Of the historically documented species from ESEC Tapacurá, Panthera onca, Puma concolor, Alouatta belzebul, Sapajus flavius, Herpailurus yagouaroundi, Leopardus wiedii, Eira barbara and Tamandua tetradactyla have not been recorded. Many of them are suggested to be locally extinct, especially in the case of big cats and primates. However, the presence of introduced species such as the domestic dog accelerates the local defaunation processes and figure as further threat to biodiversity. Documenting CEP's historical defaunation process can serve significantly as baseline for conservation strategies in extremely fragmented and endangered areas as the Atlantic Forest.
