The professional health residency program in veterinary medicine is a postgraduate Lato Sensu course designed to prepare and qualify professionals for entry into the workforce. Spanning a duration of 24 months, the program operates under an exclusive dedication regime, with a minimum workload of 5,760 hours. These hours are allocated between practical activities, constituting 80% of the total, and theoretical-practical activities, making up the remaining 20%. The veterinary professional in residency also engages in activities in the field of public health, adopting an approach centered around the concept of One Health. Additionally, there is the opportunity to undertake activities at another educational institution for up to one month, although this experience is not mandatory. The aim of this work is to describe the activities conducted during the period of residency in veterinary anesthesiology at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, as well as to report on the use of the transversus abdominis plane and ventral serratus plane blocks in six cats undergoing total mastectomy.
