Item “Policiar é civilizar”: policiamento e projeto civilizador no Recife oitocentista (1842-1845)(2025-03-20) Gomes, Amanda Caroline Barbosa; Silva, Wellington Barbosa da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1213688229016782; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2678112330462560Este artigo tem como objetivo explorar a ação da polícia no espaço público e o seu papel na implementação de um processo civilizador nas ruas do Recife oitocentista, de 1842 a 1845. Para tanto, foi necessário contextualizar por que se transformam a instituição, a conduta e a constituição afetiva de pessoas, usando como pano de fundo a obra de Norbert Elias intitulada: O Processo Civilizador (1994). Inicialmente discutimos o processo civilizador que as elites dirigentes tentavam implementar no Recife, fazendo uso de aparatos policiais em moldes burocráticos. Recuperamos usos de conceitos teóricos como governamentalidade e antidisciplina, considerados ímpares para que o leitor compreenda como nos oitocentos houve uma tentativa de normatizar comportamentos de pessoas consideradas não civilizadas. Em seguida ocupamo-nos com a análise da estruturação interna do Corpo de Polícia no período em tela. Por fim, verificamos as ações de policiamento, práticas e técnicas de governo para estabelecer a ordem social e garantir a tranquilidade pública, passeando por documentos manuscritos da polícia disponíveis no Arquivo Público Estadual Jordão Emerenciano na coleção da Polícia Civil. Com isso, pretendemos mostrar as raízes históricas das atribuições legais que conhecemos hoje desse aparato estatal teoricamente tão atrelado e comprometido ao combate da criminalidade, e contribuir também para a ampliação de estudos com a temática da polícia na historiografia brasileira, que vem se construindo lentamente.Item Festejos e controle social: os bailes carnavalescos no Teatro de Santa Isabel (Recife, 1850 - 1855)(2023-04-28) Barros, Rayane Nathaline Dias de; Silva, Wellington Barbosa da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1213688229016782; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7100858196009882This work arises with the purpose of analyzing the practices of nineteenth-century carnival manifestations that took place in the city of Recife, specifically within the Teatro de Santa Isabel, between the years 1850 - 1855, and how the propagation of these festivities makes it possible to understand the performance of some mechanisms of social control of the society of the time. The choice of time frame is justified by the inauguration of Teatro Santa Isabel – as a symbol of civilization for Recife society at the time, aiming to analyze the propagation of carnival balls promoted within this private space, to the detriment of Carnival manifestations. Based on the analysis of cultural manifestations, we can understand the systematization of the controlling power of the ruling class in Recife in the 19th century, as well as analyze how the instruments of communication play an important role in the construction of a civilizing ideal, which tend to marginalize the manifestations of most popular stratum of the city of Recife in the 19th century (1850 - 1855). It is in this scenario of disputes for spaces of sociability in the capital of Pernambuco, that we will investigate the attempt to build a national identity, which seeks to break with some cultural manifestations that do not meet the civilizing progress that fosters the ideals of a slave-owning elite.
