    As abordagens historiográficas recentes sobre o jesuíta Jorge Benci e os novos horizontes de pesquisa

    Historiographical studies on Jorge Benci are far from being abundant compared to those of Jesuits who were his contemporaries, such as Antônio Vieira. The scarcity of works is perhaps justified by the fact that they are, almost always, limited to the analysis of Benciano's work Christian Economy of Masters in the Government of Slaves (1705), limiting the debates about the Italic Jesuit and his productions only to the theme of African slavery. The objective of this study, therefore, is to analyze the historiography produced about Jorge Benci, since the 1980s, in order to point out new questions and paths of analysis for future research on the Jesuit priest.
