The demand imposed by the globalized world has made the work environment more and more competitive, since the demands are more and more specific, demanding agility and dedication. The effort on the part of the worker to achieve successes in the established goals has led to an increase in the number of injuries. Given the above, the objective of this study was to address work-related mental disorders (WRMD) and their impacts on public management. This is a quantitative, exploratory-descriptive research, secondary data that aims to know the stressful and potentiating factors of WRMD, reported in the NAST Recife database in the months of January and February 2015 to 2019. The study population was workers notified away through sick leave or medical certificate ICD 10 F. 310 notifications were recorded in total, so that there were variations regarding gender, age, professional status, among others. A greater number of notifications were observed for the female gender, aged between 31 and 40 years. As for education, patients with complete higher education were the most reported. It drew attention to the low amount of notifications in general, which demands better training for the worker, to recognize their limitations and disorders and to combat this problem in a more evident way. The study carried out made it possible to identify that the WRMD is an invisible illness that creates burdens on the public administration, resulting from the work process, in which managers disregard the evidence presented by workers, who silently fall ill, requiring temporary leave or permanent, which may culminate in suicide. Disregard on the part of managers contributes to the underreporting of WRMD cases, masking official data. Therefore, it is up to the managers to train and sensitize their workers about the importance of carrying out the notification, as well as the correct completion of the form, where, in many cases, the responsible professional underestimates the importance of this item, leaving it blank.
