The aim of this study was to evaluate the replacement of corn by the extra fat whole germ of corn-GIEGM - in association or not with the Mexican Elephant Ear Palm - POEM - in the feeding of beef sheep. The experiment was carried out in the Sheep Farming sector of the Animal Science Department of the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, located in the city of Recife-PE. Forty Santa Inês sheep were used, no castred males with four months old and initial weight of 22.0 ± 1.0 kg, distributed in a completely randomized design, in four treatments: Corn + Hay, Corn + POEM, GIEGM + Hay and GIEGM+ POEM, using 10% of the dry matter of the diet for corn and extra fat whole corn germ in the diets that contained these ingredients, the use of palm did not exclude the use of tifton 85 hay. The animals were housed in individual pens provided with drinking fountains and feeding troughs, arranged in a covered sheepfold. The experiment lasted 75 days, with the first 15 days for the animals to adapt to the facilities, diet and management, and the remaining 60 days for evaluation and data collection. Ingestive behavior evaluations. Were realized chemical analyzes of diets and foods. There was no difference for the contrasts where TR, TA and C2 were evaluated, effect of the association of the Mexican elephant palm ear with extra fat whole corn germ (GIMEG + Hay vs GIEGM + POEM); and C4 the effect of the energy source (Corn + Hay vs GIEGM + Hay), for TA, TR, TO, TMT and EAL. The Mexican elephant ear Spineless Cactus stimulated dry matter intake in both treatments to which it was included, favoring a longer idle time, reducing total chewing time, improving feeding efficiency and rumination efficiency.

(2022-10-07) Nascimento, Thaís Fernanda do; Guim, Adriana; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5179137865818915; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5238680527935892
The search for food that meets commercial and healthier requirements has created a greater search for meat of higher quality and nutritional value. In this paper, the goal was to evaluate the effect of diets with different lipid sources associated with forage palm on the sensory characteristics of sheep meat. The research included 39 male animals, without a defined racial pattern, castrated, 4 months old and an average initial weight of 22 kg. The experiment took place in the Department of Animal Science, sheep and goat farming sector of the Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco, located in Recife, Pernambuco. The treatments consisted of Tifton Hay and Forage Palm as forage, and ground corn, wheat bran and mineral salt as concentrate. In the experimental diet, cottonseed, corn germ and coconut cake were inserted in the concentrated feed. The animals were housed in individual suspended stalls, containing feeders and drinkers, distributed in a covered shed. The experiment lasted 60 days, with the first 30 days aimed at adapting the animals to diets, facilities and management. The last 30 days were devoted to data collection and evaluations. From the Longissimus lumborum muscle, the characteristics, sensory attributes and commercial value of sheep meat were evaluated. The diets utilized with lipid sources did not show significant differences in the sensory characteristics of sheep meat (P>0.05), showing a positive positioning of the evaluators regarding purchase intention, which makes it a good alternative for lambs in the termination phase.

Due to the great domestic animal breeding in the world, the market of products directed to these animals, such asrations, has also increased. These feeds, in turn, may be subject to microbial contamination, mainly by fungi, which are microorganisms that can cause food deterioration or contamination by toxic substances such as mycotoxins, leading to financial losses and, when ingested, causing health risks to the animal. Thus, the objective of this work was to isolate, quantify and identify the filamentous fungi present in feed for dogs and cats commercializedin their original packageand bulk containers in the municipality of Serra Talhada / PE. Four samples sold in their originalpackage (two for dogs and two for cats) and four samples sold in bulk (twofor dogs and twofor cats) were analyzed using two different methods: serial dilution and direct plating for determination of quantity of Colony Forming Units (CFU) per gram of feed and the contamination index, respectively. All samples showed fungi of the generaAspergillusand Penicillium, witha maximum quantification of 36,7 x 104CFU / g of fungi for feed marketed in their original packaging, as well as for one sample of cat food thecontaminationindex was 100%. In general, rations sold in sealed packages had a higher amount of fungal counts than those sold in bulk, but there was no significant difference between the samples, according to other studies. In Brazil, there is no legislation that determines the maximum limit of fungal colonies per gram of feed, whatmakes it difficult to classify the sample as safe or not. However, the presence of Aspergillus and Penicillium under conditions of low water activity may indicate a possible production of mycotoxins in feed. Thus, it is determined that the form of commercialization is not the only factor that influences the fungal contamination of foods, although it is emphasized that the packaging protects the foods conserving their original characteristics and making them less prone to microbial contaminations.

Cats play a very important role in human life. In Brazil, the feline population has stood out for its growth in comparison to other species. Often, professionals and guardians are unaware of the true nature of the cat, so nutritional and behavioral analysis is the initial measure for the detection of various types of problems of different origins in domestic cats and serves as the main source of evidence for the evaluation of animal welfare. This study aimed to evaluate the dietary and behavioral profile of cats living in Recife and metropolitan region. A questionnaire containing 38 questions was designed and applied to cat guardians in Recife and metropolitan region, in the state of Pernambuco, addressing points about feeding, behavior and welfare of these animals. The results obtained were tabulated and analyzed according to the frequency of responses, through descriptive statistics with the use of Microsoft Excel 2019 and Google Forms 2018 programs. The research on the food profile of domestic cats domiciled in Recife and metropolitan region showed that most of them are cats that feed themselves with food, and that the guardians are concerned about providing a ration according to the physiological conditions of the cat. Regarding the behavioral profile, many cats showed calm, docile, indifferent, scared and agitated behavior when dealing with strangers, and when interacting with other animals, their behavior mostly defined between: Agitated, frightened and aggressive. Some points need attention, a portion of the animals evaluated have free access to the street, have food available at will, do not receive food ideal for their nutrition and, as observed in the results, most are not with the ideal body score index, according to the perspective of their guardians. All these are detrimental factors to the animal, which can develop eating and behavioral disorders.

Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is a plant native to South America, including Central Brazil. With considerable production in the Northeast in the states of Bahia, Paraíba, Sergipe and Ceará, reaching in the harvest of 2018 a total of approximately 2.3 tons per hectare. In order to reach high yields in the peanut crop, it is essential that there is an expressive supply of nutrients and for this, this work was developed to identify a cultivar and the source of fertilization that contributes most to crop productivity and seed quality. The study was conducted in pots with a volume of 8.5 liters, under field conditions, in a 2 x 6 factorial scheme (two cultivars x six treatments), and five replications, totaling 60 plots. The treatments were designed according to the recommended dose based on Potassium, from 0 to 150% of the dose and the addition of an additional control with traditional NPK fertilization. Variables of the plant part and the seeds harvested from the experiment were analyzed, comparing the presented differences between the cultivars and the different treatments. The cultivar Caiana obtained the highest estimate of production when using the dose of 100% of sugarcane residue followed by the Absolute Witness, presenting an estimate of 1611.69 and 1416.80 kg / ha respectively. The cultivar Tatu obtained similar results, however in different treatments. The treatments that resulted in better production estimates were those with 50% sugarcane residue per hectare and NPK fertilization, with an estimate of 1666.78 and 1535.25 kg / ha. The absolute control was the lowest value, only 418 kg / ha. The cultivar Caiana has the highest green mass and quality of its seeds superior to cultivar Tatu ST. The ash from sugarcane bagasse constitutes a good source of nutrients, however, it is recommended to repeat the experiment under other conditions to confirm its potential as fertilizer. The soil used in the experiment is of good fertility.
