A Educação Ambiental (EA) desempenha um papel importante na conscientização sobre a necessidade de conservar o meio ambiente, no entanto, seu ensino nas escolas ainda é deficiente. Os oceanos cobrem 72% do planeta e enfrentam sérios problemas devido a ações humanas, que afetam os ecossistemas marinhos, especialmente, espécies como os tubarões. Distúrbios ambientais têm levado tubarões e outros predadores marinhos a se aproximarem das áreas costeiras, onde incidentes com humanos acabam ocorrendo. O Brasil é o quarto país com mais incidentes envolvendo tubarões. Com o objetivo de conscientizar os jovens e reduzir as ocorrências de incidentes foram realizadas palestras, exposições de materiais biológicos e aplicação de questionários antes e após a palestra para escolas de algumas cidades da Região Metropolitana de Recife e na cidade de Custódia-PE, abordando temas como vida marinha, ecologia e medidas de prevenção de incidentes. Um total de 22 escolas foram visitadas, somando 919 estudantes, divididas em quatro grupos, separadas por ocorrências de incidentes nas cidades. O grupo que obteve a nota mais alta na primeira etapa do questionário foi aquele com maior ocorrência de incidentes, o que leva a entender que o assunto é tratado nas escolas, já a menor nota veio do grupo com o segundo lugar de incidentes, o que causa certa preocupação. Quanto a segunda parte do questionário, a maior nota foi obtida pelo grupo onde não há ocorrência de incidentes, e que na primeira etapa obteve a segunda menor nota, o que subentende-se que esta questão de EA com tubarões não é bem discutida no local. Pode-se notar que todas as notas apresentaram uma melhora significativa após as palestras, o que evidencia a importância de aulas didáticas de EA para promover um melhor entendimento de temas abordados e promover uma conexão com a realidade, contribuindo para o processo de sensibilização dos indivíduos. Espera-se que os jovens, agora mais atentos aos tubarões e ao seu comportamento, adotem uma postura mais cautelosa nas visitas às praias.

Environmental Education (EE) plays an important role in raising awareness about the need to conserve the environment, however, its teaching in schools is still deficient. The oceans cover 72% of the planet and face serious problems due to human actions, which affect marine ecosystems, especially species such as sharks. Environmental disturbances have led sharks and other marine predators to approach coastal areas, where incidents with humans end up occurring. Brazil is the fourth country with the most incidents involving sharks. With the aim of raising awareness among young people and reducing the occurrence of incidents, lectures, exhibitions of biological materials and questionnaires were administered before and after the lecture to schools in some cities in the Metropolitan Region of Recife and in the city of Custódia-PE, addressing topics such as marine life, ecology and incident prevention measures. A total of 22 schools were visited, totaling 919 students, divided into four groups, separated by incidents in the cities. The group that obtained the highest score in the first stage of the questionnaire was the one with the highest incidence of incidents, which leads to the understanding that the subject is dealt with in schools, whereas the lowest score came from the group with the second highest number of incidents, which causes some concern. As for the second part of the questionnaire, the highest score was obtained by the group where no incidents occurred, and which in the first stage obtained the second lowest score, which implies that this issue of AE with sharks is not well discussed at the site. It can be noted that all grades showed a significant improvement after the lectures, which highlights the importance of EA didactic classes to promote a better understanding of topics covered and promote a connection with reality, contributing to the process of raising awareness among individuals. It is expected that young people, now more aware of sharks and their behavior, will adopt a more cautious stance when visiting beaches.
