In the northeastern Semiarid one of the major concerns for the Regional Economy are the long consecutive years of droughts and droughts. The phenomenon of droughts in the Northeast has resulted in a large mass of emigrants to other regions that have not been affected by long periods of drought and water scarcity, particularly in the North and Southeast regions, significantly increasing the number of called "drought flagellated". It is common objective to report how the Emergency Fronts occurred in the Brazilian Northeast and in particular in the municipality of Santa Cruz da Baixa Verde - PE, in the 1980s and 1990s. The specific objectives are: to analyze the ways of obtaining family income in the Period of the Emergency Fronts (EF), their importance of those for the local economy; report the main problems and difficulties encountered to enlist in (EF) from the point of view of workers from their oral memory; of the daily life of drought scourges by historiográfic review; point out which are the main government programs aimed at rural producers who contributed to killing hunger and thirst in prolonged drought periods. For this, bibliographic surveys of the characteristics of the northeastern Semiarid were carried out, its form of settlement, the edaphoclimatic characteristics by which the northeastern Semiarid has lived with the great periods of and droughts, droughts and irregular rains. In the reports, it was also noticed the difference between the work carried out by men and women in (EF), also analyzing the role of the farmer man and the farmer woman in the midst of prolonged drought conditions. In the statements the interviewees point out the difficulties for enlistment , since bureaucracy as to the amount of people who could be listed , errors in the listling data as well as the programs that succeeded . The reports point to rough life in the daily life of the Emergency Fronts, becoming notorious the need of the population for more government benefits aimed at (com)experiences with drought contributing to the permanence of man in the field.

The first rapadura mills recorded in Brazil arose during the colonial period, a consequence of the first sugarcane seedlings brought to the country in 1532 by the military man Martins Afonso de Souza. The production chain of sugarcane derivatives is of great relevance in the income generation of family farming in the Brazilian Northeast. The present study aims to analyze how the production and commercialization of these organically produced derivatives occurs in the sugar mills of the municipalities of Triunfo - PE and Santa Cruz da Baixa Verde - PE, as well as the generation of income for the families involved, observing historical and contained in all stages of production. Resulting from an applied, explanatory and qualitative research, the study also included a literature review, questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, in order to extract the maximum information from the participating families. The research also aims to observe the existence of pluriactivity in the families involved, as is the quantity of mills in operation and if there are currently barriers preventing these numbers from increasing. The main results found show that most families involved in this production process are multi-activity, but even performing other functions, the milling period increases the income of these people, and therefore the income that individuals have throughout the year were analyzed. And separately the income from production in these mills. It was noted that the producers who supply sugar cane to a cooperative have advantages over those that supply to the other mills, and also that one of the mills is responsible for the manufacture of artisanal cachaça and has differentiation in practically all of it. productive process, including functioning throughout the year as a tourist spot in the city of Triunfo - PE. It was also found that many factors led to the drop in production of these mills, climatic factors, and marketing difficulties caused by labor shortages and the recent creation of major market competitors.
Inclusão digital e relação escola comunidade: instrumentos para o desenvolvimento da agroecologia na agricultura familiar e do protagonismo de jovens rurais no Sertão de Pernambuco

Este projeto tem como objetivo contribuir para o desenvolvimento da agricultura familiar agroecológica por meio da inclusão digital de jovens rurais e do intercâmbio entre Universidade e Comunidade. Como lócus de ação, escolhemos o município rural de Santa Cruz da Baixa Verde, localizado na mesoregião do Sertão do Pajeú no Estado de Pernambuco. Neste, priorizamos o investimento na comunidade de Jatiúca, por meio da Escola Municipal Artur Viana, com 40 jovens, inicialmente. Considerando a importância da relação escola/comunidade, buscaremos contribuir com os conhecimentos sobre informática e agroecologia de jovens rurais, alunos e não alunos da referida escola. Acreditando em uma metodologia participativa, visamos realizar uma pesquisa-ação por meio da qual Universidade e a sociedade se integrarão na construção do conhecimento visando o desenvolvimento sustentável da região.
