    Viabilidade econômica do confinamento de ovinos alimentados com rações contendo milho ou gérmen de milho integral extra gordo associado ou não com palma orelha de elefante mexicana

    The objective of this study was to evaluate the economic viability of confinement of lambs fed diets containing corn or extrafat whole corn germ associated or not with Mexican elephant ear palm (OEM). The experiment was carried out in the Sheep Sector of the Animal Science Department at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco. Forty Santa Inês sheep were distributed in a completely randomized design using the animals' initial weight as a covariate. The treatments consisted of diets composed of tifton-85 hay, with two energy sources (corn or corn germ) associated or not with OEM palm: Corn+hay; Corn+Palm+Hay; Germ+Hay; Germ+Palm+Hay. For economic analysis, the market prices obtained for the feed ingredients and for the live weight of the lambs were considered. In possession of the cost of each ration and their dry matter consumption, the technical, zootechnical and economic indicators were analyzed. The Germ+Palm+Hay treatment presented the lowest cost value for 1 kg of dry matter. Tifton-85 hay and soybean meal had higher average market values than the other ingredients that made up the feed. The Germ+Palm+Hay treatment provided better productive and economic performance.
