The Igarassu city in the State of Pernambuco inside of the Environmental Protection Area Aldeia-Beberibe has potential to contribute to the sustainable development of the metropolitan region of Recife through agricultural production based on agroforestry systems. The brazilian agricultural production is going through a crisis in which commodities funding has been prioritized instead of the small scale food production for direct consumption, aggravating environmental imbalances, making Brazil's economy fragile and leading millions of people to starvation. The valorization of small farmers is urgent, and regional knowledge and socio-environmental diversity need to be increasingly discussed, and thus systematized, so that Permanent Preservation Areas can be come profitable with in the studied region, respecting the current legislation, through the agroecological principles specially by Agroforestry formulations. The promulgation of Federal Law 14.119/21 on Payment for Environmental Services serves as a basis to contribute to the resumption of the discussion of this policy in the State of Pernambuco, as well as to associate different public policies such as the Food Purchase Program, the National School Feeding Program and the Minimum Price Guarantee Policy as viable and important mechanisms for the flow of production and strengthening of family farming.
