The Pet Food segment is what most represents the pet market in Brazil, providing consumers with a wide variety of brands and types of feed. The objective of this research was to identify which aspects are important in the choice of ration and to analyze the capacity of interpretation of the labels of these products. Sixty people were interviewed, all of them aged 18 years old and owning at least 1 (one) dog. The data obtained through the application of semi-structured questionnaires were tabulated and analyzed in a descriptive way by frequency using the Microsoft Office Excel® 2013 software. It was concluded that, regardless of the socioeconomic profile of the interviewees from the Northern Zone of Recife, all presented the habit to buy rations with the aim of offering the best food for your dog. However, there is a lack of technical knowledge on the part of animal nutrition and difficulties in interpreting important information to achieve this goal.
