This study deals with percussive maracatu groups, with a focus on the percussive group Maracatu Sol Brilhante, in order to show the trajectory of the cultural percussion group and analyze the performance and socio-cultural place of Maracatu Sol Brilhante in the city of Gravatá. To this end, it was necessary to discuss the characteristics of maracatu nação and rural maracatu and point out the specificities of the maracatu sol brilhante group in this context, identify how the group was formed and organized and analyse the performance and socio-cultural place of Maracatu Sol Brilhante in the city of Gravatá. The analysis and reflections were referenced in the debate on representation and methodologically supported by the Oral History method. In order to construct this work, bibliographic dialog on the subject was used, as well as interviews and other circumstantial sources. The results achieved consist of recovering the trajectory of the Sol Brilhante percussion group and understanding the group's role as a cultural, educational and political agent in the city of Gravatá-PE.
