(2023-09-18) Ferreira, Mateus dos Prazeres; Andrade, Moacir Bezerra de; Aleixo, Grazielle Anahy de Sousa; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3165940085830406; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8254242572414884; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1142105954631842
The Mandatory Supervised Internship (ESO) comprises a crucial moment in the learning curve of veterinary medicine students, being a moment of challenge for future veterinarians who will put into practice all their knowledge, fundamental to professional excellence. With a view to personal improvement, this report addresses the ESO, which took place between June 1st and August 14th, 2023, with emphasis on the area of Small Animal Surgical Clinic. Divided into two parts, it began on June 1st and ended on the 30th of that month at the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE) under the supervision of M.V. Dr. Robério Silveira de Siqueira Filho and collaborators. Between July 3rd and August 14th of that same year, ESO began to be carried out at the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), in Areia, Campus II, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Felipe Nael Seixas and collaborators. The two experiences totaled the 420 hours required to complete the bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine at UFRPE. Knowledge of the regional anatomy of the head and neck is essential to work in veterinary dentistry and the veterinarian, to be successful in the dental clinic, must become familiar with the very delicate structures of this anatomical region, which is made up of bones of the skull, face and jaw, its joints, innervations, vascularization, glands and adjacent tissues, as well as the lymphatic system. In this way, it is possible for surgical intervention to become much safer and more precise in the care of dogs and cats. As an integral part of this report, the last chapter will consist of a syllabus proposal for the creation of the optional subject entitled “Clinical Anatomy Applied to Dog and Cat Dentistry”, for the Undergraduate Course in Veterinary Medicine at UFRPE. This menu aims to contribute to the scientific and academic community, with the aim of compiling basic and important anatomy concepts for one of the veterinary medical specialties that has been growing the most and gaining ground, which is dog and cat dentistry.

The Required Supervised Internship was held between September 1st and November 18th of 2021 at the Animalis Surgery and Veterinary Clinic in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). During the internship, 89 patients were assisted, including dogs and cats. These underwent therapeutic approaches related to their clinical and/or post-surgical conditions, enabling an integration between the theory seen at the university and the practice of the intensive care routine. One of these clinical cases was chosen owing to the complexity of diagnosis and the treatment and care procedures during the patient hospitalization. The feline thromboembolism is an important coagulopathy in Veterinary Medicine as it is one of the main causes of acute limb paralysis and sudden death. Feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (FHCM) is one of the most common causes of emboli in the blood vessels of this species, which can be addressed via clinical protocol or, yet not so recommended by literature, through a surgical procedure. The present work aims to report the case of a brazilian shorthaired cat, eleven years old, castrated, weighing 3.9 kg, who was admitted to Animalis with left pelvic limb paralysis and impaired pulsation in the left femoral artery. The patient underwent emergency treatment, restoring the motor function of the limb after five days under therapeutic care in intensive care unitl.

Implantation, or subcutaneous, mycoses are a group of diseases caused by fungi that are characterized by the inoculation of the agent through transcutaneous trauma. They are called implantation mycoses because some of these diseases can affect other tissues of the body, in addition to the subcutaneous tissue. As is the case with sporotrichosis, an implantation mycosis caused by dimorphic fungi of the genus Sporothrix. Thus, the objective is to evaluate the epidemiological aspects of sporotrichosis in the context of Single Health through a literature review. The review on sporotrichosis was carried out through research in the following renowned databases of national and international literature: BDTD Nacional, Scopus, Periodicos CAPES, PubMed, Scielo, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde and Google Scholar, using sporotrichosis and public health as the main words -chaves, both in portuguese and english. As a large number of files were recovered, 47 files were selected that best suited the research theme. Classically, sporotrichosis is transmitted by the inoculation of the fungus through trauma caused by contact with contaminated organic matter such as soil, branches and tree trunks and thorns, but since the 1990s, it has become of great relevance in public health in Brazil, when the first outbreak of disease in humans was described with the domestic cat as the main inoculator, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. It is more prevalent in regions with a tropical and temperate climate. In Brazil, like much of the world, the disease is neglected and is not part of the compulsory notification diseases and diseases. Clinical manifestations in humans are related to the location where the lesions are located and their extent, with cutaneous lesions being more common and pulmonary lesions being more common in extracutaneous involvement. In animals, it is mainly represented by cats, which present ulcerative and/or nodular lesions mainly in the nasal region, chest and extremities. The implementation of effective and standard health surveillance emerges as a necessity so that there is real data on the disease in the national territory. It is necessary to work together in the human, animal and environmental spheres to adopt actions and measures based on these three pillars to better understand the disease. Providing free and rapid diagnosis for cats appears as an incentive for the population to seek official health services to identify the disease. In addition, raising awareness among health professionals and the general population is extremely important for control to be effective.

The Residency Program in the Professional Health Area in Veterinary Medicine is presented in the lato sensu postgraduate education modality, aimed at in-service training and aimed at veterinarians, with full-time regime, and duration months, equivalent to a minimum workload of 5,760 hours. This workload is distributed between theoretical and practical activities in the area of concentration / performance and public health. Due to the pandemic caused by the Coronavirus 2 severe acute respiratory syndrome virus (SARSCOV-2 / COVID-19), which led to the temporary closure (March to November 2020) of the Veterinary Hospital (HOVET) of the Federal Rural Pernambuco University (UFRPE), there was a loss of workload in the concentration area. The area of activity / concentration of the aforementioned work was in Small Animal Surgical Clinic, and the activities were developed at HOVET at UFRPE in Recife, while activities in the public health area were developed in the municipality of Camaragibe. In order to complete this postgraduate course, it is necessary to prepare a residency conclusion work (TCR) that is presented in an expository manner for the evaluation of a board. The objective of the TCR was to describe the activities developed, both in the area of surgical clinic and in the area of public health, in addition to reporting a case experienced during the residency period. The case was of a two-year-old mixed breed (SRD) cat, attended at HOVET / UFRPE, presenting a symptomatic picture of constipation and megacolon, which was diagnosed as a megacolon secondary to the narrowing of the pelvic canal, caused by vicious consolidation fracture in acetabulum. The surgical treatment instituted was hemipelvectomy, to correct the narrowing, and colotomy to remove fecaloma. In conclusion, food management is of paramount importance in conservative and post-surgical treatments of disorders of the digestive system. We conclude that the completion of the postgraduate program in the residency program in the Professional Health Area in Veterinary Medicine, presented in the form of lato sensu teaching, in-service training, provides the veterinarian with training, experience and theoretical confidence and, mainly, practice in the area. concentration in which the resident intends to act in his career.

Cats play a very important role in human life. In Brazil, the feline population has stood out for its growth in comparison to other species. Often, professionals and guardians are unaware of the true nature of the cat, so nutritional and behavioral analysis is the initial measure for the detection of various types of problems of different origins in domestic cats and serves as the main source of evidence for the evaluation of animal welfare. This study aimed to evaluate the dietary and behavioral profile of cats living in Recife and metropolitan region. A questionnaire containing 38 questions was designed and applied to cat guardians in Recife and metropolitan region, in the state of Pernambuco, addressing points about feeding, behavior and welfare of these animals. The results obtained were tabulated and analyzed according to the frequency of responses, through descriptive statistics with the use of Microsoft Excel 2019 and Google Forms 2018 programs. The research on the food profile of domestic cats domiciled in Recife and metropolitan region showed that most of them are cats that feed themselves with food, and that the guardians are concerned about providing a ration according to the physiological conditions of the cat. Regarding the behavioral profile, many cats showed calm, docile, indifferent, scared and agitated behavior when dealing with strangers, and when interacting with other animals, their behavior mostly defined between: Agitated, frightened and aggressive. Some points need attention, a portion of the animals evaluated have free access to the street, have food available at will, do not receive food ideal for their nutrition and, as observed in the results, most are not with the ideal body score index, according to the perspective of their guardians. All these are detrimental factors to the animal, which can develop eating and behavioral disorders.
