    O comunismo através dos jornais: as eleições municipais de 1947, em Jaboatão dos Guararapes

    In 1947, communist Manuel Rodrigues Calheiros was elected to the prefecture of Jaboatão dos Guararapes, with deputy mayor Aníbal Varejão as leader of the PSD in the municipality. The newspapers of the time treated the event in different ways. While some openly supported the unusual political alliance between the PSD and the communists and the possibility of an intellectual with communist ideals ahead of the city hall, others criticized the candidates or even silenced before the political events of the city. This article intends to bring an approach on the discursive mechanisms used by the main periodicals of the time, during the municipal elections of October of 1947 and in the beginning of the management of the communist mayor, seeking to bring the understanding of the ideology behind the journalistic subjects and the message that was passed through them.
