    Vilas operárias e as reconfigurações urbanas de Santo Amaro no século XX

    This study aims to analyze the territorial, urban, and social transformations over time in the Santo Amaro neighborhood. It is essential to highlight that, in the early 20th century, hygienist and eugenic urban policies had a significant influence on the changes that occurred in the city of Recife. Following the intervention of the state government, led by Agamenon Magalhães, which targeted the elimination and removal of Mocambos, an intense gentrification process began, promoting a new dynamic of urban modernization and sanitization. This process led to significant alterations in the urban space, including the construction of several workers' villages in Santo Amaro, driven both by initiatives from the Liga Social Contra o Mocambo and private investments.
